What To Look For In A Wedding Venue

So you’ve done it, you got engaged. Now you get to enjoy those fantastic wedding visions whizzing around in your head while you take on the huge task of wedding planning. These days weddings are less traditional as many happy couples want to stamp their personality on the day. This means that items such as venue decorations that were traditionally an easy choice of flowers can now take many hours of pondering on to come up with something more unique and personal.

One good thing to come of the wide range of differing weddings you can now choose is that the amount you need to spend can be lowered considerably. You can marry in unique places that are not expensive such as parks and gardens and you can make your own centrepieces from thrift shop glass bowls and candles. One thing you will need to determine up front, however, is your budget. You can then find one of the many wedding checklists out there on the web and allocate your budget across the various expenses.

One of the main costs is going to be the wedding venue you need to hire for the day. The cost of this can spiral out of control after the big day if you were not thorough in your research as part of your wedding planning. Check out a few of the venues in your area, and when you’re thinking about what to look for in a wedding venue ask them to confirm the following in addition to the price that they quote you:

  • Does the price include hire of the venue, staff and bar for a certain number of hours? Can you exceed this and how much will the additional cost be?
  • Terms of the deposit and final payment.
  • Whether staff tips are included or expected in addition.
  • Are there options to upgrade the menu choices and how much do they cost?
  • Is there a minimum amount that the bar must take on the day?
  • How much decoration is included, eg, flowers, centrepieces etc?
  • Do they charge to cut the cake and if so how much?
  • Can you hire your own suppliers of the cake, flowers, disco, photographer etc or do you have to use those tied to the venue?
  • What extras are you likely to incur, eg, clean up fees?

You do not want any nasty surprises after your big day so take your time to ask the important questions up front.
