Understanding Hair Plugs For Women
Hair plugs is really not the common term for hair restoration surgery. Usually the procedure is referred to as hair implants, hair transplants, or hair grafts. But no matter what name you use, the procedure is the same. Living and growing hair follicles are removed from one area and transplanted or implanted into the area with hair thinning or baldness. This medical treatment works very well for men because of the nature of their hair loss. Men will usually see thinning at the front of the scalp, called a receding hair line, and on the top of the head at the crown. Men very rarely lose their hair at the back of the head and thus this area is used as the donor site for the grafts. Hair plugs for women have not been as effective as those for men because women do not lose their hair in a set pattern usually. When a women suffers hair thinning and loss (about 60% of the hair loss cases involve women) they tend to see the problem over their entire head as a general lessening in hair follicle count. This means there is no good donor area like a man has because removing hair from an area that is already thinning will only make it look worse. There is hope now, though, with a new method known as direct hair replacement.
With this method the hair restoration doctor can manipulate individual hair follicles by removing them with a surgical instrument. This tool can then be used to insert the follicle into any thinning area. The use of the individualized procedure means body hair can actually be used as a filler on the head. The body hairs are not the same texture as the scalp hair generally, so they won’t work well at the hair line. But they do blend in well with the rest of the hair and can have a dramatic effect on how full the women’s hair looks.
These hair plugs or hair grafts as they are usually called, will continue to grow for years to come and can make a dramatic difference for a woman who is suffering the embarrassment of hair loss. If this is your situation then you owe it to yourself to look into the direct hair replacement method as a way to get a full head of hair.
