Tips For Feeding Your Husky Puppy
We have been raising husky puppies for over 17 years. When friends of ours got a husky puppy of their own, they immediately called us to ask us about our puppies diet. We have rules that we stick to when feeding our pups. There are three key components that we consider when setting up our puppies feeding schedule. We are concerned with portion, protein content and how often we feed our pups. If you concentrate on these three aspects, you’ll be able to set your puppy up with a healthy diet.
Portion control is a very big deal when it comes to feeding puppies as they do not know “when to say when”. They will continue to eat even after their little bellies are full. It’s important that you do not overfeed your puppy because overfeeding can lead to health issues later in life. It’s a good idea to start feeding your puppies about 1 cup of dry food at a time. This is enough food to fill them up and they will feel satisfied.
Protein content is also an important part of any puppies diet. Husky puppies have a lot of energy to burn so feeding them a puppy food that is high in protein will help them stay active. Puppy foods that are high in protein will also help your puppy develop strong bones and muscle tissue. Chicken and fish are both very high in protein, so finding a pet food made with either of these ingredients will be a great place to start.
How often you feed your puppy is also a very important issue. We usually feed our puppies in the morning when they wake up and at night around dinner time. You can add a lunch time feeding, perhaps half a cup of food, but it really isn’t neccessary. If your dogs are very active, then you may consider addding the lunch time feeding. Otherwise, twice a day should be fine.
