The Safety of Seat Belt Extenders

Many people each year are issued tickets for failing to wear their seat belts. There are a variety of reasons why individuals choose not to wear their seat belts. However, for some people, wearing a seat belt can be an uncomfortable if not impossible task. For them, seat belt extenders are the only option.

Seat belt extenders are the best solution for overweight and obese individuals, as well as those who need more room while wearing equipment. Auto seat belt extensions are manufactured in a variety of lengths and usually come in a few standard seat belt colors. Some automobile makers manufacture extensions for their vehicle brands, so customers can be certain that the belts will fit and match their current seat belt.

There are “click and go” extension belts, which buckle directly into a car’s current seat belts. These car seat belt extensions may be used while driving, unbuckled, and used again when the user is traveling as a passenger or in another vehicle. Other extensions can be bolted to the chassis of the motor vehicle. While these extension belts cannot be easily taken from car to car, they are less conspicuous than their snap-in counterparts.

Brands such as General Motors and Ford Motors provide auto seat belt extenders to their customers. These extension belts are available through dealerships or may be found online through retailers and auction websites. Other automobile makers will install longer seat belts upon request.

When purchasing a belt from an Internet retailer, customers should check that the company’s products satisfy motor vehicle standards. This applies to the airline seat belt extender as well. Some manufacturers do not supply extension belts, citing claims that there has been insufficient evidence that extension belts will protect individuals as well as factory-installed seat belts. Most manufacturers do agree that a seat belt extender for cars will protect the wearer better than no seat belt at all.
