The Glass Extending Dining Table

I have a passion for things made out of glass. Right from glass slippers to glass clips, all of the things I use contain glass in one way or the other. Ever since I was a child, I remember the small triangular piece of broken glass with green and orange color bands on it.  We used to hold it up against the sun and try to see the world through the colored glass.  We also believed that keeping that piece of glass under our pillow would protect us from ghosts. A child’s world is truly made of fantasies. But I grew up and the fantasies grew with me and I went on to do my course in interior design and setup my own design studio.

As you can guess, I was always fascinated with glass and used glass in all of my creations.  From the huge beautiful vase by the entrance door to my glass altar, I have different designs with glass. But, my best is yet to come. I designed a glass extending dining table which won the best innovative furniture design award at the institute.

In fact the idea to design a glass extending dining table came upon me while I was sitting at the restaurant watching the little boy on the next table scribbling on the restaurant dining table. The table top was made of glass and the colors though scribble looked like a nice collage to my eyes. I thought it would be a novel idea to create a dining table with glass and when I got a chance to come up with a new design for the competition I used this idea and sure enough won the prize for it.

Later on at my studio, I commercialized this idea of making glass dining tables. In fact, I went a step further and designed extending glass dining tables too.  The glass extending dining table has one piece of glass hinged and is then left hanging by the side or folded, and can be set against the wall too. The top of the dining table has a colorful design and the extending table top has the corresponding design which unfolds when it is set upright.

I have innovated and experimented with glass extendable dining table top designs. I have painted several pictures, I have used embroidered work stuck under the glass table top and recently I have also used broken glass work design on the glass table. The beautiful pigeon made out of glass pieces has a lighting arrangement underneath which when switched on brings out the rich green and orange color and makes the pigeon alive. I plan to make another glass extendable dining table with a colorful butter fly too.  This has truly been one of my greatest creations.
