What You Need To Know About Laser Tattoo Removal

Tattoo removal is the long lost twin of tattooing. It has been around since the existence of tattoos and was done through numerous ways. Previous means of removing tattoos require surgical excision paired with skin grafting. Another method is dermabrasion which uses mechanical or chemical techniques. One technique artists love to use was tattooing over the existing tattoo with an acid or saline solution. All these methods are effective on a certain degree but the common drawback is that they all leave a nasty scar.

A recently developed technique in tattoo removal is done by means of laser. It is proven to be effective and leaves no marks. However, there are factors that need to be considered before deciding to have your tattoo removed this way.

  • Tattoo Size – the size of the tattoo you are trying to remove matters as it determines how much money you need to spend and how many sessions it will need to be totally removed
  • Level of Ink Penetration – inks deposited to deeper layers of the skin require more time and more sessions to completely remove
  • Color – darker colors such as black and blue are easier to remove since it takes up a lot of heat from the laser and melts it faster compared to lighter colors
  • Pain Threshold – if you can only bear pain in a rather short span of time, you will definitely need to come back frequently to get the tattoo completely removed
  • Like all other tattoo removal methods, pain is ever present with laser tattoo removal. Doctors often prescribe Tylenol before the procedure to at least diminish the pain. After the procedure, the doctor will apply topical antibiotics to prevent infection of the tattoo site.

Laser removal tattoo has its edge over other removal methods in that it can remove the tattoo completely without leaving any trace of the tattoo or the procedure. After the site heals, your skin will look as if there wasn’t any tattoo on that before. As appealing as it is, the tattoo removal cost can be very expensive; even more expensive than getting the tattoo. So for those who are planning to get one, make sure that you want it for life.

    Does Tattoo Removal Cream Work?

My boyfriend wants me to get rid of this silly little tattoo I got on my ankle when I was a teenager. I admit, it’s not the coolest of tattoos but it’s also not the worst of the bunch either. It’s a sort of abstract black design that suggests a flower, but it mostly just looks like someone got a little crazy with their tattoo machine and had an unsuspecting, innocent, teenage girl at the receiving end of the needle – otherwise known as me!

I suppose for a badly done tattoo, it’s a pretty good spot (better than my shoulders, back, chest or arms, right?). Either way though, it’s slightly annoying to me every single time I see it, and evidently far more annoying to my boyfriend every time he sees it.

For my birthday he took the suggestion one step further and bought me this Wrecking Balm tattoo removal kit. It wasn’t cheap he said, but would work, according to what he read on the internet and at the site itself. The company even will give you all your money back if it doesn’t take away your tattoo, so it seemed like a win win situation.

I’m, however, a bit more skeptical about these cheap tattoo removal gels than my boyfriend, he always thinks something he read “on the internet” somehow counts as the last word in an argument.

Of course I’m going to give it a try, and unless it starts burning my skin or causing warts to appear or something, I’ll keep at it. I’ve got a 3 month supply, so, presumably, if all goes well, in 3 months my ankle will no longer bare the mark of a crazed tattoo artist. We’ll see! If not, at least this is another argument where I won and my boyfriend (and his internet connection) didn’t!
