Buying a Home Tanning Bed

Posted in Beauty on July 7th, 2010 by Jim – Comments Off

There are several advantages to owning a home tanning bed, such as not having to driving to a tanning salon, or worrying about days and hours that a salon is open to get the perfect tan. You will no longer have to worry about monthly fees and or membership costs and instead pay just a onetime price to have a tanning bed put into your home.

One of the goals when purchasing a tanning bed for the home is to find one that you will be comfortable in. Depending how often and how long you will be tanning for, you want to make sure you buy something that is going to suit your needs and not something that is going to be bought and then just sit in the corner. If space is an issue at your house, there are several kinds of beds that fold flat making them easier to store.

The one potential downfall of having a tanning bed at home is that you lose the input and knowledge from the salon staff. The top priority when tanning is to make sure you are practicing safety in regards to use of the bed. You don’t want to put your skin at risk for potential cancer down the road because you were not properly using equipment that you had purchased to tan with.

Here are some basic guidelines to keep in mind if you are going to be tanning on your own.

  1. Wear eye protection at all times – UV rays can cause damage to the eyes impacting your sight so it is never a good idea to go without protection when you are tanning.
  2. Follow the timer / clock – there are time limits that are recommended for each tanning bed and you want to make sure you follow them. Just because you need a quick tan for the weekend does not mean you can sit in a tanning bed for two hours and get a quick tan. You would do potentially irreparable harm to your skin by doing that. Slow and steady wins the race as the saying goes.
  3. Start slow – when you first start tanning, you might want to tan only one time per week until you’re sure how the bed works and how your skin will react to the settings. Tans and even burns can sometime take several hours to start to show and you don’t want to end up with serious burns by going too far the first time.

If you decide to go the used route when buying a new tanning bed instead of purchasing something new, make sure that you have it thoroughly inspected. Check to see what the warranty is for all of the parts and if the bulbs or lamps have been replaced or will need to be in the near future.

There are many advantages to personally owning a tanning bed as long as you are aware of what comes with owning one. The new tanning beds of today will suit your needs or even buying a used one online, either way just be sure to due diligence in your research to make sure all your questions are answered ahead of time before you make your purchase.

My Use Of Tanning Bed Accelerator

Posted in Beauty on February 24th, 2010 by Jim – Comments Off

Tanning has not always been my thing. Matter of fact, I only went to a tanning salon one time on a free trial. The trial was for three free tans in the stand up tanning tube as long as you purchased one tanning bed accelerator.

I jumped in the little tube, rubbed the accelerator all over my body and got in the tube. The limit was five minutes for the first time. After five minutes was up, I got out hoping to see this beautiful dark tan on my skin. I looked down at my arms only to find lotion covering my still pasty white skin.

A few months later I decided to go fishing with a group of friends. Where is my tanning lotion? Here it is! I grabbed it and was off. We got to the beach around eight AM. I rubbed my Suntan lotion (which was actually tanning bed accelerator) all over my skin. I fished, and rubbed more and more on throughout the day until we finished around four PM. I was expecting to see this beautiful tan glow on skin, but found out- to my surprise I was red as a ripe tomato.

When I got home after the long ride from the beach, I was in so much pain I slept for the next two days. And it was not a good sleep. It was a painful sleep that woke me up every time I rolled over. I guess it didn’t take me long to realize that you should NEVER wear tanning bed accelerator when you go outside tanning. It’s definitely not tan lotion and not made for the direct sunlight. What made it worse was that I just got hired for a new job and was so happy to experience my first day at my new job glowing red like Rudolf in front of all of my new coworkers.

If you use tan accelerators for the purpose it was made for, the tanning salon, then you will see great results. If you use it for the wrong purposes; as I stupidly demonstrated, it will not work out so well for you.

Take it from me, you do not want to accelerate the sun power burning your skin, It hurts. And even after all of the pain and burning and glowing red, I am still white as snow.
