Ground Lights for the Patio

The idea of the “ultimate patio” can be readily seen in outdoor home magazines. In these images, manufacturers place their many patio products around the yard to give consumers ideas on how their products can be used in a patio atmosphere. Have you ever wondered how their patios are always so well lit? The secret lies in off-scene light fixtures which are employed by lighting professionals. In real life, one must seek out patio lighting products to achieve a similar effect. Patio lights are available in a number of forms which can be used together.

Path lights are one kind of patio light which can be great help in creating a welcoming atmosphere and keeping the area safe. Even the best of patios can have uneven surfaces and objects which people can trip over. To keep this from happening, you can use solar path lights on the ground. These lights can be placed into the ground around the patio given that grass or soil resides in that location. Users place the path lights into the ground at the edge of the patio to sanction off the area. Since the lights are placed several feet apart, users can step around them when entering or exiting the patio. The uniform placement of the lights created the impression of a line.

Path lights are durable fixtures which are made in many pleasing styles. Their stylish exteriors exhibit beauty while protecting the delicate components inside. At the top of every light is a panel which soaks up light from the sun and turns it into electricity. This power is saved in a battery which powers the LED light bulb at night. Feel free to use as many lights as you want, because each one turns on and off by itself, eliminating the hassle of switching each one on individually. A solar patio light kit can make a dramatic difference in any patio.

Planning For Garden Patio Lighting

Garden patio lights can help extend your usable living space into your garden after dark. Well chosen and positioned lights will add to the atmosphere and make the garden a top place to relax and enjoy your time off. If you already have a sitting or dining area in your garden, it would be a good idea to plan some lighting so that you can use it in the day and the evening. The range of patio lighting is extensive – you can find simple and cost effective lights or be more extravagant with over the top and expensive displays.

However you want your garden lighting to look, you will need to plan it carefully. Consider pathway lighting, eating area lighting and feature lighting, but stay away from one huge flood light that tries to do everything as you will end up looking like a football stadium. Decide on how you will most likely be using your garden area after dark. This will then determine the type, quantity and location of the best lighting for you. You can always enhance this basic lighting with supplemental lights later for one off occasions. Perhaps you have a once a year party – buy the basics for your everyday use and then have some party patio light strings stored away to bring out for your party.

When considering different light types, look at how they are powered. Electric lights will mean an increase in your utility bill, whereas solar lights will not. Electric lights are also troublesome if you do not have the wiring and sockets in place already. Battery powered LED lights might be another option if this is the case for you. Solar powered lights are often the best choice if you live in a sunny climate. They may be slightly more expensive in the purchase cost but that is the only cost you will incur, saving you in the long run!

Brighten Your Patio With String Lights

If you are a homeowner that has a patio or is planning on building one, then you probably already realize that you can get a great deal of use out of your space at night, as well as during the day, if you simply have the right type of lighting so that the space is not too dark and uninviting.  There are many types of lighting choices that you can select from when it comes to lighting up your patio, but almost none can make it feel as fun as a set of outdoor patio string lights can do with almost no effort.

String lights are great for a number of reasons.  They are not a huge investment (in fact, they are fairly inexpensive) and they do not need to be installed permanently like other types of outside lighting, so you can simply put them up or take them down whenever the mood strikes.  You can decide to simply hang some string lights around your trees, or patio umbrella only when you are having people over or planning a party to add to the festive atmosphere, or you may prefer to have them hanging all summer long so you can enjoy their glow even when you are out enjoying your area with no one else around.

There are also many types of string style lighting for you to choose from.  You can get solar patio lights or those powered by electricity, which simply plug into an outlet at the end of a string.  You can get glass lights or plastic ones, or you can even get a set of colorful paper lanterns to hang along the edge of your patio.  You can get simple clear lights or colored ones, elegant styles or theme oriented designs.  You can even get lights that will coordinate well with holidays, special events or children’s parties.

There are many ways that you can brighten up your space with a set of string lights.  All you need is a bit of imagination and you can find a fun way to brighten up the night and enjoy your patio.

Solar Patio Lights – A Compromise

Posted in Garden on March 9th, 2010 by Jim – Comments Off

In recent times I have been investigating the possibility of using solar energy to power my home. It would be nice to eliminate the electricity bill, and I can’t think of any better reason to give solar power a shot. Of course, on top of that there is the fact that its an environment friendly energy source. To my disappointment, I have discovered that procuring and installing the equipment to convert to solar power, requires a substantial initial capital, and its for that reason that there has been a slow uptake in using these new technology. While the initial outlay in installing the equipment should be recovered in several years it is still quite an obstacle to overcome.

In researching the matter more, I came upon on an offer by earth 4 energy that indicated that the cost to go this route does not have to be quite as high as my initial research pointed to. Indeed, a mere couple hundred bucks instead of thousands, as was indicated in this promotional offer, is no hurdle at all. However, after carefully considering the available information on this matter, I have concluded that this is a scam. So alas, it appears that my ambitions of powering my home fully using solar power will not be realised any time soon.

Although I have resolved that it is just not feasible at this time to go fully solar, I have realised that this does not mean nothing can be done now. It is within my grasp to implement a partial conversion to solar power. For example, there are such things as solar lights for patio and garden. While a relatively small step, it is virtually hassle free, and does to some extent accomplish the purpose of reducing electricity costs, since I already am using electricity to light up the patio and backyard. Of course, there is still the added benefit of being friendly to the environment.

For the many who are in similar circumstances where the costs of going totally solar are prohibitive, I would recommend a compromise. Install solar patio lights in your garden for now, and wait for the price of indoor systems to come down to a more affordable level.
