Smoothie Maker Provides Year Round Enjoyment

The smoothie has become very popular, especially during the summer season.  It is a refreshingly healthy drink usually composed of fresh fruit, juice, ice and yogurt, blended into a thick delicious beverage.  It has become so popular that more people are interested in making them at home.  Because the ice for the smoothie must be finely crushed and well blended with other ingredients, a regular blender is not really suitable.  Now a smoothie maker is available in a range of prices that allows anyone to own one.

The smoothie maker does work in the same fashion as a kitchen blender, but has more power to allow the ice to be pulverized and smoothly blended with the fruit and other ingredients.  The mixing container is usually narrower, allowing the ingredients to have better contact with the blades and will feature easy to read measuring markings so all mixing can be done in one container.  Many models also feature a spout near the bottom of the mixing container, making it unnecessary to pour the beverage from the top of the mixer and may come with a stir stick to help safely mash the ingredients toward the blades when mixing.

The healthy aspects of the smoothie is not limited to a delicious way to incorporate more fruits into our diets.   Using this appliance to create protein powder drinks, smoothie diet drinks, perfect iced coffees and frozen Margaritas or Daiquiris are just a few of the ways to put this great appliance to use.  It is so versatile, it can even be used for many of the functions now performed by the kitchen blender, such as chopping, dicing and blending.  Suggested recipes often come with the machine and can easily be obtained elsewhere.  But perhaps the best drink created will be one of pure imagination and experimentation.  With all the different uses of this appliance, it will provide year round enjoyment, not just frozen drinks in the hotter months and is certainly a worthwhile investment.

How to Pick the Best Smoothie for your Smoothie Maker

It seems that we can’t watch the television these days without getting inundated with informercials on smoothie makers.  Which one is the “best smoothie maker” seems to be a never ending debate among the different companies and one that won’t be solved easily.  If we take a step back from that, though and go to the crux of the smoothie maker debate we see a very important thing to consider.  What type of smoothie will be best for us and how do we determine what that is?  Thankfully this doesn’t have to be a crazy difficult question.

First off the reason to go with a smoothie is to improve health.  Nearly any smoothie that is made from natural fruits and vegetables is going to be a good drink for you, so don’t sweat the details too much.  Just keep in mind we want to blend fruits and veggies we love with those we don’t care for so much in small quantities so as to mask the flavor.  If you like citrus an orange juice smoothie is a great way to start.  Begin with some orange juice, add in some bananas, strawberries and whatever other fruits you like and then sneak in a couple leaves of spinach.  Trust me the color may change slightly, but the flavor won’t be compromised.  And think of all the benefits you are getting from adding those dark green veggies to your diet.

Other great for your vegetables include romaine lettuce, kale, spinach (guess I already mentioned that one!), and so forth.  The key is to find that group of fruits that you love the taste of and go with it.  Personal favorites of mine include pineapple, apples, pears, oranges, mandarin oranges, bananas, blueberries, mango and strawberries.  Don’t be afraid to buy frozen fruit either because this is a good way to get the fruit at a great price and can take the place of some of your ice in the smoothie.  Do whatever feels great to you!
