Scrapbooking Kits for Mother Day’s

Posted in Hobbies on April 16th, 2010 by Jim – Comments Off

Mother’s Day is usually celebrated on the first Sunday of May every year. It honours mothers and their relentless love and care they bestow upon us. It was started in 1907 by Anna Jarvis during a memorial to her mother. Thereafter, she embarked on a campaign to have the day recognised as “Mother’s Day”.

Every mother’s day, it is a tradition for children to given carnations and other gifts like cards. The origin of giving carnations can be dated back to the time when Anna Jarvis offered carnations to her mother as they were her mother’s favourite flowers. This tradition was passed along when Mother’s Day was officially recognised as a holiday in 1914.

Aside from traditional gifts like carnations and cards, gift ideas for this special day have evolved greatly. If you’re on a budget but looking for a personalised gift, why not try digital scrapbooking?

Digital scrapbooking, an alternative of traditional scrapbooking involves creating them on a digital platform. Instead of the traditional method of using scrapbooking kits to manually cut, paste and glue the trimmings, ribbons, buttons and lace around decorated, textured paper, all these would be done with a click of the mouse on the computer.

Before you dismiss this idea as mass produced and impersonalised, the context of creating these art pieces are actually the same as their traditional counterparts. However, with scrapbooking online, they bring many advantages over traditional scrapbooking.

For example, photographs or other materials can be burned, trimmed and ripped without compromising the original quality of it. The original photographs can also be duplicated many times unlike the traditional method.

Search online and you will find may free digital scrapbooking softwares available for download. These scrapbook software comes with free resources in their library and other editing tools to help you in your creations. This makes creation virtually costless yet personalised.

Other Ideas for Scrapbooking Rooms

If you don’t have the space, did you know that scrapbooking rooms can be set up in other locations of your home and serve largely the same purpose? Sure, there is no rule that you have to have a dedicated room to scrapbook. You can do it from anywhere. That is the beauty of scrapbooking, but you will need someplace to store all your supplies. And, it is certainly easier to have somewhere in which your supplies are readily accessible and easy to use.

One such place for scrapbooking rooms that people often forget about is in using a portion of another room such as your bedroom. Often the master bedroom is larger than the other rooms in the house, making it the ideal place to begin setting up scrapbooking rooms for many people.

To set up in a portion of the master bedroom all you need to do is firstly decide on the area of the room you will be taking over. One of the best places to set up your space is most likely near a window or other natural light source like a sky light window. Move the furniture that is currently in that space out of the way and find other places for it. Is the space large enough to work with? Think about what you would like to put in there, furniture wise.

Scrapbooking rooms typically have unique furniture, but you can certainly make do with what you have or what you can find at a thrift shop. You will need a desk with drawers and cupboard space as well. If you have room, you can put in those rolling drawer units or perhaps even shelving. And also don’t forget the chair. You will also need to have access to an electrical outlet for your electronic tools and also to be able to plug in a light.

Now you can get started and use your space to it’s best advantage. Scrapbooking rooms in other rooms don’t get a lot of attention, but they certainly can be made to serve their purpose.

Cricut Totes – Crafters On The Go

Posted in Hobbies on January 16th, 2010 by Jim – Comments Off

One of the many celebrated features of the Cricut Personal Electronic Cutter is its compact size. It is lightweight and easy to carry, making it the perfect portable cutting machine. But of course, even the lightest, smallest machines can still be awkward to carry, so the people at Provo Craft have introduced an entire line of Cricut Totes for crafters on the move.

The Cricut Carry Tote is perfect for storing and transporting the original machine, along with your cutting mat and other associated accessories. It is foam padded to protect your Cricut from being damaged and a zipper securely keeps the contents of the bag from spilling open. The carry tote is also a stylish storage solution, in chic gray with lime green embellishments.

People who take their crafting projects on the road might prefer the Cricut Storage Tote instead. This has all the storage capacity of the Carry Tote but also features an extendable handle and wheels so that it can be pulled along behind you like a small suitcase. This makes transporting your Cricut even easier as there is no need to lift it. Extra padding makes your machine even safer with this option. The Storage Tote is colored gray and green, just like the Carry Tote.

Unfortunately, the larger Cricut Expression is too big to be carried in either the Carry Tote or the Storage Tote but the manufacturer has also created the much larger Bag especially to accommodate the Expression. Whilst the Expression is generally seen as the non-portable version of the Cricut, it can be easily transported in this fashion. Velcro straps secure the machine and a sturdy base gives extra strength and support, ensuring that the large expression will not be damaged in any way. The wheels have been strengthened to support the weight of the Expression and a convenient carry handle makes it easy to pull along.

The Cricut Shoulder Bag will also accommodate the cheap Cricut Expression, and all the smaller Cricut machines. The Shoulder Bag is just like a sports bag and is water resistant, an important quality in a bag designed to carry electrical equipment. Pockets designed to hold cartridges and accessories are located inside of this watertight seal. The Cricut Shoulder Bag has an adjustable padded shoulder strap, making it comfortable to carry.

Now I know what you’re thinking. How can you be sure that you’ll be able to fit all of your cartridges into one of these bags? You want to carry your entire collection with you just in case you need one and you don’t think the packets will be big enough. The people at Provo Craft have thought of that too. They’ve created the Cricut Messenger Tote especially for your cartridges. A handy shoulder strap makes it easy to carry the smaller carry case at the same time as the larger totes.

If you regularly transport your machines between different locations you should take measures to ensure its protection. Totes are the best way to both protect and carry your machine as they have been specially designed for the task. Buying a Cricut brand tote will ensure that you never damage that precious machine and never loose those all-important accessories.
