Under Counter Refrigerator For The Stylish Kitchen

For those of us who find ourselves perpetually short of space in our kitchens fridge freezer, the desire for additional refrigerated storage space can be strong.  There are two basic ways to increase how much food you can refrigerate in your kitchen; you can either trade your fridge in for a larger model, or purchase a second small fridge to give yourself additional storage.  This article briefly reviews some of the features of one popular second fridge option – under counter refrigerator.

As house proud homeowners, having a visually appealing kitchen is very important to many of us.  For this reason it is important that when purchasing a second refrigerator that they add to your kitchens appearance, rather than detract; an under counter fridge certainly meets this requirement.

A good refrigerator of this type can be installed in a manner that it integrates seamlessly into your kitchens existing wood cabinets.  They can be purchased with an optional front panel that can be customized to exactly duplicate the front of your cabinets – all the way from the species of wood, to the style of trim work.

Due to a cleverly engineered ventilation system, these under-counter refrigerators vent to the front of the appliance.  This feature is what allows these units to be safely installed under a counter top.  While you may be tempted to use a cheap portable fridge freezer in the same way, the requirement these models have for rear and side ventilation will prevent a neat fit, and will result in a visually unappealing installation.

Despite all these great features, these units are very easy to install.  Simply plug in the power under the cabinet – hook up any plumbing if required – and slide it back under the cabinet.  As mentioned there is no need to worry about leaving an air space, a common concern with other types of refrigeration.

Inside these refrigerators consist of very elegant sliding drawers for the storage of your food and drinks.  These drawers look a lot fancier than your typical ‘door’ refrigerator.  An added bonus is that their location close to the floor allows you to take advantage of this extra storage to keep items you want your kids to have access to readily available to them.

There is no denying these units sound great; there is however one drawback to under counter fridge freezers.  They are by no means cheap.  Quality units can be two thousand dollars or more.  You certainly will pay for what you get, but if your kitchens visual aesthetics are a high priority for you, the money may be worth spending.
