Patio Lighting Can Add A New Outdoor Dimension
Posted in Patio on February 8th, 2011 by Jim – Comments OffDepending on the size of your patio or deck, you may be able to add some fixtures to add a new dimension to your outdoor living space. The size of your deck or patio will determine the type of accents you can add and still have room to move about, but there are some that seem to fit into the surroundings better than others.
For example, if you are looking to add accents and patio lighting at the same time, you might consider picking up a light house that is equipped with a light. It doesn’t necessarily have to rotate like the real ones; rather it can just put off a slight glow to provide a little light while filling the space with something interesting.
Pedestal lights are also good for providing light and attracting attention. They can often be moved around as the situation dictates, while adding some light to the outdoors. Another popular accent is lighted wishing wells. Built on small pedestals of bricks, or wood, they can hold a lantern-shaped light on top, creating another dimension to your outdoor living space. Of course, if your goal is to add plenty of light, the lantern can be supplanted by a larger light fixture. Patio umbrella lights nicely finish off your lighting scheme, and give everything a luxury resort look.
Benches attached to the railing of a patio deck can add additional seating and deck lighting attached to the railing provides light for those seated on the bench. The disadvantage to fixed benches is they remove seating options for large parties. The advantage is they are always available. Movable benches can be used to accommodate larger groups and can be moved to various areas on the patio.
Regardless of the type of accents you may add to your patio or deck, don’t go overboard to the point that there is no place else to stand or sit. An accent piece should do just that…add an accent to the existing space, not completely take it over.
