Creative Unique Masquerade Masks

If you are looking for an interesting and one of a kind theme for your next party, consider throwing a masquerade party. A masquerade is essentially a gathering where guests appear in masks that partially or entirely disguise their appearance, and costumes that match the theme of the masquerade masks that they are wearing.

Masqueraders may choose to don a half mask, covering only the eyes and upper part of the face, or they may choose to conceal their entire face including their mouths. These masks may be secured by an elastic or string that ties around the ears and back of the head, or may be held in place with a stick that the wearer holds during the course of the evening.

Masquerade parties are fun for a variety of reasons. During the course of the evening, guests can enjoy guessing who is who, and discovering whether they were right when everyone de-masks at the end of the night. Another entertaining factor of masquerades is the number and variety of creative and unique masquerade masks that will be worn; any individual can purchase an inexpensive theater mask, but designing your own unique mask, or searching for the one that best suits your personality can be an additional and entertaining challenge.

Consider a masquerade party like another Halloween, when planning and creating the costume is as much or even more fun that the event for which said costume is being made. Get creative with your mask with the following suggestions:

Visit a your local theater costume department for inspiration. Once you have determined how your want your mask to look, find a simple white plastic masquerade mask from a costume or theater shop. Use paint, feathers, sequins, and whatever else inspires you for your design, and discover just how far you can let your imagination go as you produce your own creative and unique masquerade masks.
