Introduction to Ankle Liposuction

Women are typically predisposed to having higher fat deposits on the legs, and in rare occasions on the ankles. Eliminating these fats is often not successfully achieved through conventional and natural fat reduction methods, particularly diet and exercise. That said, most people who want to shape up their legs and define their ankles resort to liposuction. However, you should be aware that ankle liposuction involves much greater risk as compared to eliminating fats in other areas of the body. This is because the ankle is mostly composed of muscles and bones. Surgeons performing this delicate procedure need to carefully remove the deposited fats to avoid damaging the sensitive nerves surrounding the ankle.

Today, liposuction ankles are generally much safer, more effective, and offer more favorable results as compared when the procedure was offered twenty years ago. Although fat removal in the ankle region is not that substantial since the area does not normally have high amounts of fat deposits, the procedure can considerably help to define the ankles which in turn can be a confidence booster. This may seem trivial for some but the thought of having contoured and well-defined legs is already a big thing for others.

During ankle liposuction, the doctor will have to make a small incision on the treated area which is big enough to accommodate the cannula that will help suck out the fats. Those who are not really a fan of invasive cosmetic treatments can just opt for new liposuction procedures that do not involve making an incision on the skin. Take for instance mesotherapy. This non-surgical liposuction method has already gained popularity over the recent days. With mesotherapy, certain enzymes will be injected to the problem area to facilitate fat tissue breakdown. The good news is that this procedure offers selective body shaping, which means you can opt to eliminate fats on specific body regions, such as the ankle.

In order to become a good candidate for ankle liposuction, you must have a considerable amount of fat deposits on your ankles, and you also need to have excellent skin elasticity. People with poor definition on the Achilles tendon as well as those with ankles will surely benefit from this kind of liposuction treatment. Moreover, results are quite favorable but not permanent.

As for the downtime, length of recovery will vary depending on the extent of the surgery and how your body responds to the treatment. Some heal more quickly than the others but normally you can go back to your regular activities a couple of days after surgery noting that there is no complication.

Ever Heard About Liposuction Ankles?

Cosmetic surgery has been available for many years but liposuction ankles is a relatively new procedure to the market whcih many people have never heard of. Whilst the techniques have been available for some time there have recently been considerable advances in the procedure which has reduced the potential post operative problems. However, as with any surgery there are various points to consider.

For example, it is essential to find an experienced and reputable surgeon. Often the best way to approach this is by word of mouth. Once you have selected a surgeon you need to understand how liposuction on ankles works.

The surgeon will probably carry out a ‘pinch’ test where they will literally pinch your calf and your ankle to assess the amount of fatty deposits. The surgeon should also take a complete medical history as this procedure is not suitable for anyone who has suffered from deep vein thrombosis, has poor circulation or is a diabetic.

The surgery itself involves three small incisions. One is on the front of the ankle and two further cuts on both sides of the Achilles tendon. However, you should be reassured that these incisions are very small as the area in which the liposuction takes place is limited to such a small area.

Most people will be unaware of the actual operation as normally a general anaesthetic is given, or at least level IV sedation. Once you wake up from the liposuction your legs will be bandaged and these must stay in place for about a week. Initially it important to elevate the legs for approximately 12 hours, although you are able to walk for essential reasons, but standing in one position should be avoided. When the bandages are removed you will continue to wear ankle supports for a further couple of weeks, and although initially there will be bruising, most people are immediately pleased with the results.
