Learn About Laser Assisted Liposuction

One of the most popular ways of performing liposuction these days is with a laser. With its promise of a less invasive procedure with essentially the same results as traditional liposuction, it has gained a popularity among those who do not wish to go through the physical trauma and long recovery times associated with traditional liposuction.

However, before choosing to undergo laser assisted liposuction, there are a couple of things that need to be considered and done to ensure that the patient gets the most out of the experience, and for the money that will be paid.

First, it is important to do proper research to find out the best clinic or professional to perform the procedure. There are many clinics offering this service, and everything from the costs (liposuction prices can vary drastically depending on many facotrs) to the quality of the surgeon will have to be factored in. Remember to not rely solely on a clinic or professional’s website for information and testimonials. It is always best to go to discussion forums to ask around, or to read reviews of the clinic or surgeon. As with any procedure, if you have the opportunity to speak to someone who has been through it before, that is one of the best resources.

Once a doctor is chosen, the next step is to go to a consultation meeting. This meeting will allow the patient and doctor to get to an understanding as to what the patient requires, what the expected results could be, any risks and side effects that can be experienced, and of course, the estimated dollar figure.

When the patient and surgeon come to an agreement, the patient may quickly be ready for the procedure. Most surgeons will ask the patients to return to an appointed date, with some even asking the patients to do some preparations before the date of the procedure itself. During the treatment, which shouldn’t last long, the surgeon may apply local anesthesia in the area, with the amount depending on the size of the area to be treated and the amount of fat that needs to be removed.

When the treatment is finished, the surgeon will ask the patient to take it easy for the next couple of days, which is a very short recovery time compared to traditional liposuction. Most patients are given the clear to return to normal day-to-day activities within one to two rest days.

If any complications occur, the patient should return to the doctor as soon as possible, so the problem can be resolved quickly.

Tumescent Liposuction is another method which is regarded as being extremely safe and worth checking out if you are considering using this technique to improve your body.

Benefits That Laser Liposuction Offers

There are many benefits that laser liposuction offers over the traditional lyposuction technique. Traditionally using physical force to break up fat cells for removal from the body, some common problems are related to damage skin tissue, blood vessels and other tissue in the area being treated. This causes all kinds of problems which the patient’s body has to recover from whereas laser liposuction patients are subject to a much more gentle procedure and therefore experiences a much reduced recovery period.

One of the most common problems with traditional lyposuction is excessive blood loss. In fact it is not uncommon for a patient to require a blood transfusion to compensate for the amount of bleeding that occurs caused by damaged blood vessels. With a much more precise way to target fat cells without damaging blood vessels, laser liposuction significantly reduces the amount of blood leaked. In many cases where there is a trace amount of bleeding the heat from the laser actually causes the blood to evaporate. Keeping the treated area dry is very important for a quick and painless recovery.

A common side effect of lyposuction is hematomas or seromas. These conditions are temporary and not serious health concerns but can be scary for an individual to witness. It is the discoloration of the treated area when blood leaked from damaged vessels is not drained properly before the incision is closed. The red blood cells pool underneath the skin to give it to colored appearance. In severe cases it could take many months before this symptom goes away.

When fat is removed from the body, it is a permanent change. That is why lyposuction can cause problems like skin irregularities which occur when too much body fat is removed from one particular area. Without the fat under the skin to smooth it out, grooves and dimples might appear on the surface of the skin. This is very unlikely with laser liposuction because the smaller tools means only a small amount of fat can be removed at a time. This allows more opportunities for the surgeon to reevaluate their work before continuing to remove more body fat and is another advantage of the laser technique.

Laser Impact on Liposuction Side Effects

There are many advantages that laser liposuction offers over traditional liposuction. While the two cannot be fairly compared side by side because of their difference in application, there is enough of a cross over to make comparisons and to understand why laser assisted liposuction can offer improvements over the traditional method. One of the most prominent areas of difference is the reduction of liposuction complications and risks. Despite being a relatively safe procedure as far as plastic surgery goes, there are some liposuction side effects that many would rather not have to experience and using the laser technique is one way of minimizing many of the risks.

The reason why laser lipo is so much safer than traditional liposuction has to do with the size difference of the procedure. Using a laser is much slower but much more accurate and being precise in only targeting the fat cells means less damage to other tissue. The stress and trauma of other liposuction methods are really what causes the most common problems.

One such area is the blood vessels. Excessive blood loss has been one of the most prominent associated complications of liposuction. But using the laser method there is much less chance of damaging blood vessels. In instances where blood is leaked, trace amounts will evaporate due to the heat generated by the laser. This means less fluid in the treated area which means fewer problems during recovery.

The most common recovery problems are a result of improper or inadequate drainage of the treated area. Problems such as coloration under the skin caused by the accumulation of blood or the swelling of the legs and feet after a major procedure are side effects related to too much fluid in the body that has not been drained. Laser liposuction also reduces the risk of removing too much fat at one time since it is a much slower, more detailed procedure.
