Introduction to Laser Hair Removal For Men
Posted in Beauty on July 28th, 2010 by Jim – Comments OffLaser hair removal is not just for women anymore. Men of all ages and occupations are discovering the benefits of removing unwanted hair via lasers. Some men keep it simple with just neck hair and maybe eyebrows. Others go for removal of chest and back hair. Which ever way you go, you need to do some research. Here are some basics to get you started.
Skin and hair color are important when discussing laser for hair removal. The best results are obtained by people with light skin and dark hair. This is because the laser can more easily distinguish between the skin and hair making it more effective. That is not to say that it only works in these cases. Different skin types require a different type of laser so you need to ask plenty of questions if you’re not one of those described above.
Is laser hair removal painful? Yes…but you can handle it. Different people have different pain thresholds but most describe the feeling as a rubber band being snapped against your skin. Topical anesthetics are often used to minimize any pain. If the pain is unbearable then most likely the laser operator has the settings wrong and is burning your skin!
Will my hair be permanently removed? Depends on what you mean by permanent. The FDA defines permanent as six years and thus allows practitioners to use that word. Usually, everybody needs some type of follow-up session after a few years. Hair laser removal is not forever but it’s the best method out there for hair removal and lasts significantly longer than waxing or shaving.
How much will it cost? About the same as a nice vacation for your and your significant other. You can expect to pay between $1000 and $3000 depending on your hair and skin type and where you want it removed. There are too many variables to get a more definitive number as each persons situation is different. Laser hair removal for men is not cheap but if you add up the cost of waxing and shaving over several years (not to mention the time involved) it’s a worthwhile expense for many people.
Finally, do your homework. There are many clinics out there and competition is good for the consumer. Don’t be afraid to talk with several until you feel comfortable with the clinic and its staff. It’s important to get the information you need to make the right decision for you.
