Jobs For 15 Year Olds: Keep Trying!

If you are looking for jobs for 15 year olds you might need some advice. You are not alone because teens of all ages are looking for jobs and finding them very hard to get.

With competition so tough, it is easy to get into the mindset of “I will never find a job, no one is hiring, all the good jobs are taken, etc”. The first thing you need to do is to get rid of the negative attitude because it is hurting you and will hurt you. Employers can see right away whether you are upbeat or whether you already think you won’t get hired.

In order to get ahead of the competition, it is a good idea for you to go in and apply in person. Let the employers see you and see that you are serious enough to take the time to walk in. It doesn’t matter how much or how little experience you have, applying in person is a good thing.

When you do go into a store or business, dress professionally (at least nicely) and ask to see the manager. You should go in alone and have your Mom stay outside if you are there with an adult. Tell the manager that you are looking for a job and ask whether they have any. This step of actually going in and speaking with a manager will mean that he/she will have a greater chance of remembering you in the future if there is no job opening right now. You want to act friendly and smile while you are talking to the manager.

You should then be writing down who you talked to and following up with them. Make a call a week later to the managers that were the nicest and the ones that were the most positive. If a manager was curt and said something like “we will never have jobs for 15 year olds” then you can probably cross them off your list. But call and follow up with the stores and managers that gave you better vibes.

The important thing is to not give up and always keep trying. If you keep going into stores and applying, sooner or later you will find one that does have an opening. Apply to two or three stores a day and follow up with them. You have to remember and accept that looking for a job is hard work. But once you finally get a job it will have all been worth it and then you will have even more experience on your resume the next time you are looking.
