Try To Get A College Job In Your Major
Posted in Employment, Uncategorized on September 1st, 2010 by Jim – Comments OffWhat are the best jobs for college students? You might be asking that question if you have just arrived on campus and need to seek out a job to help pay the bills. As you may know, jobs of any kind are hard to come by but it doesn’t hurt to look for the jobs that can benefit you the most.
One thing many college kids fail to consider is the value of obtaining a job in a field related to their major. Most students just look for the highest paying jobs or the nearest jobs and are content with them. However, if you do some planning and try to think ahead, you will realize that getting a job that is connected to your major can be a big benefit down the line.
Right now college graduates are finding out just how brutal real life can be as they go out pounding the pavement for jobs. Employers have the luxury of a huge supply of job applicants and they can choose only the very best. This means that those students who already have job experience in their chosen field will have a leg up on all their competition.
When you look for college jobs, you should try to get one that is as closely related to your major and the area of work you may want to go in. For instance, if you want to be a buyer at a major retailer then any college job in retail would be a good choice. If you are thinking accounting is the direction you are leaning, you should first look for any job that will give you real life accounting experience or something as similar as possible.
If you don’t know what your major is yet or you haven’t any idea what you want to do when you graduate, you should try to get a job in a field that you are interested in. That way, you might learn more about that field and be able to determine whether there are any career possibilities in that area once you graduate.
With jobs being so tough to find, you might not have the luxury of picking your jobs and you might have to take the first one you find or the highest. That’s okay as any job is better than no job right now but look first for something that will help you down the line after you graduate.
