Feeding our Internet Addiction

Older generations fear it has replaced our ability to connect with others and taken away jobs. Whatever the disagreement is, it is also hard to resist and thrive without it. Smart phones have made accessing the internet a routine and essential tool that many people use to conduct business and their lives in general. Most people email nowadays, or text, to let you know frivolous to pertinent information. Many stay extremely active with social networking services like facebook, and some only like it to play Mario games. Whatever the vice, it is obvious that the internet can be addicting.
How can you not be addicted to the internet? It is an information super highway that feeds entertainment you simply cannot capture on television or live events. There are tons of people creating ridiculous home videos and posting hilarious pictures that it makes it almost impossible to not want to check it constantly. Bored at work? Waiting at the Department of Motor Vehicles? Hop on the internet and watch that viral video that Tosh.0 was talking about on Comedy Central.
While feeding your internet addiction, it is important as human beings to recall a time when the internet wasn’t around. Was communication really better? Were there more jobs? There are two ways to look at the internet. With all the outsourcing going on in the job market today, it seems that the internet has lost jobs for people but gained for others. The important thing to hold on to principal values like good communication and relationships with others. Just because you need to feed your addiction, doesn’t mean you should become a robot. Constantly checking your phone or even texting while people are talking to you is impolite. If people can draw a line between their need for the internet and social responsibility to maintaining relationships, we should all be just fine.
