Many people are wondering how to get rid of belly fat these days. Not only is it trendy to have a nice, flat, toned stomach but it is also much more healthy than having lots of belly fat. Those suffering with the apple shaped figures, where there are a lot of fat stores around the abdomen are at risk of heart disease and heart attacks. The problem many find is that it is very difficult to actually lose belly fat, as it is the most stubborn area to trim fat from. This is partly because it is a different type of fat than fat on the rest of the body. Do not worry though, it is possible, with a little determination, to rid yourself of belly fat.

The main way to lose belly fat is by watching your diet and increasing the amount of exercise you do daily. Contrary to popular belief, crunches and exercises aimed at strengthening your abs will not cause you to lose belly fat.  You need to instead incorporate a thirty minute exercise slot into your daily routine, where you do vigorous exercise that gets your heart pumping. You can try biking, running, pace walking, swimming, or playing thirty minutes of basketball–any activity, in other words, that sets your heart pumping.

Next you will need to re-evaluate your diet. Cut out processed foods and take away meals. Snack on nuts, grains and fruit.  Eat a lot of fruit and vegetables each day, and switch to whole grained foods such as whole grain bread and pasta, brown rice and wholegrain cereals. Serve salads with your meals and decrease the amount of calories you take in each day.

Once you begin to lose your fat belly you can start an exercise regime whereby you strengthen your ab muscles. But you will still need to keep up with your overall cardio exercises and keep an eye on your sugar and calorie intake.
