There is no science degree needed if you are planning on installing electric garden lights on your own. This  low-voltage outdoor lighting comes with just about every thing you need, besides the basic tools, to help you get your lights up and running. Listed below are a few helpful tips when installing your own garden lighting.

First you need to determine whether or not a ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) receptacle is installed near the area where the garden lights will be placed. If the GFCI is already installed, you are in luck! However if there is not a receptacle installed, then you will need to install the GFCI before you do anything else.

Drawing out a rough sketch where you plan on placing the lights will give you a great idea before you make your purchase. This will also make it easier when you go to install the lights so that you know where you want to have them installed.

Next is the fun part, and that is shopping for your new garden lights. There are countless numbers of styles, makes, colors, designs and voltage levels. There are only two brightness levels which include four watts and seven watts, making the lights with seven watts the brightest. You will want to make sure that there is a transformer included with the lights so that you are able to accommodate the number of lights you plan to install.

By using the rough drawing previously mentioned, set the unpacked lights in the area you have designated in the drawing. Begin by laying out the cable starting at the transformer and to each light on the strand. Don’t forget to leave a little slack in the cable near the transformer and the lights in case there are minor adjustments that need to be made. Now you need to attach each light to the cable according to the instructions in the packaging.

When the lights have been connected to the cable you will need to partially unscrew the two screws on the transformer. Taking a wire stripper remove about a 1/2 inch of the cable wire and attach the stripped end to the transformer.

You will want to plug in the transformer to verify that each light is working properly. If one of the lights do not work be sure that the wires are correctly connected to the cable. When the lights are set exactly how you want them, dig a small trench so that you can bury the cable in the ground. If your light set came with a automatic timer, now is a good time to set the timer to the time you desire.

Once you have completed this project, you can sit back, relax and enjoy your garden any time of the day. This simple and easy project can be completed within a few hours or over the weekend. Now take this helpful installation tips and install your garden lighting today!

Installing garden lights is an excellent way to increase the aesthetic value of any garden or patio. These lights are reasonably priced and simple to install. Choosing a flattering style and properly installing them can product a stunning effect that you will be proud of.

The first thing you need to do is choose the lighting that you want to buy. While there are many, many different kinds of landscape lighting available, the first decision you will make is whether you want garden lights that are low voltage or solar powered.

The homeowner who is sensitive to the environment will most often go for solar lighting since it does not require any electricity to run. The industry has exploded in recent years and nowadays manufacturers offer a very large selection of styles. It should be quite easy to find lights that will fit in with the rest of your surroundings. These lights also require hardly any maintenance and they are so simple to install almost anybody can do it.

Solar lighting can have its downside. Direct sunlight is necessary for the built in batteries to recharge every day. If you are trying to light a space that gets no sunlight at all, they will not be very effective. You should also be aware that solar lights are not very bright when compared to electrical units. This will not be a problem if the lights are being used to accent an area but do not expect to get a large quantity of light out of them.

For very bright light, you need low voltage units. They represent a much better option for lighting a large area or for a location where safety is a concern. Do not be fooled by the term low voltage, though. They still require electricity to work so it takes more expertise to install them because wires will need to be run. Installation can actually be dangerous if you do not know what you are doing, so it is best to have an expert help you with this job. Of course, their usage will be noticed on your monthly energy bill, so make sure this will fit in your budget.

Whichever kind of lighting you decide to use, make sure you do your homework ahead of time and only buy lights from a dependable retailer.
