Posted in Organizing on June 9th, 2010 by Jim – Comments Off

If you want to organize your closets, then there are some things that you can do to make the job a bit easier. Cleaning the closet is something that most people dread doing especially when you have one of those closets that are so full of stuff that you’re afraid to open it. Even when you get the closet organized, the problem comes back within a couple of months. So let’s look at some things you can do to not only organize your closet but to also keep it that way.

The first thing you will need to do is get some boxes or bags. The point of this is so you have something to put all of your unneeded items into. We all of have things in our closets that we never use. There’s no point in keeping them since all they do is take up room. The rule of thumb is that if you haven’t used it for more than a year, then chances are that you’re never going to use it. What you do with all of this stuff is up to you. You can donate them or just toss them.

The next thing you will want to do is to buy some type of closet organizer. There are a lot of different ones that you can get. Closet organizers come in a lot of different styles and sizes. You can get a simple one to store your shoes or you can get a more complicated one that will pretty much transform your entire closet into the system of shelves, drawers, and slots. This will make putting things away in an organized fashion a lot simpler.

The final thing you will want to do after you cleaned out your closet and got rid of the unnecessary stuff as well as install some type of organizer is to get in the habit of putting things where they belong. Unless you create a system and build up the discipline to follow the system, you are likely to end up with the mess you started out with.

Closet Organizing Tips – Rescue Your Closet From Chaos

Posted in Organizing on May 5th, 2010 by Jim – Comments Off

Many of us are probably guilty of having a chaotic closet and without even the slightest attempt of getting it organized in some way or another. While many individuals would be just fine living with it, they may also be leaving a big benefit, no matter how small or big, being lain down on the table. Keeping stuff organized inside the closet, without a doubt, brings advantages that will benefit you in many ways. You may have to open your closet doors with absolute peace of mind at all times knowing that when you open the doors, you are confident enough that there would be no clothes-slide falling down on you. You may or may not have the penchant for it, but wouldn’t it be worthy if you at least give it just one attempt? In any case, let us share some tips which could help rescue your closet from chaos. These few basic tips might just be the ones to help one out in finally having a dazzling closet.

Moving on, here are the few simple tips:

Bass & Laundry
  1.  You will have to secure some boxes. Five boxes will suffice. Either you buy the boxes from a local store (they don’t cost much anyway and you can reuse them over and over) or you sift through the garage, attic, or basement. You might find some that are still usable. Just make sure that they are still usable and clean. You are going to need these boxes as you sort all the closet stuff.
  2.    If you’ve got some green bucks to spare, you might want to consider getting some closet organizer systems. These systems can make things easier and they help maximize every available closet space. But if you don’t have any to spare, then it’s still perfectly fine. Move on to the next step.
  3.      Label the boxes in accordance to what closet stuff category you might want to put into those. For example: undergarments, shoes, sandals, business suits, casual trousers, casual shirts, socks, accessories, stuff that you are not using anymore or you don’t want to wear anymore, and etc.). If you run out of boxes, don’t worry. You can still use the bed or the floor to group things together. Just don’t mix things up.
  4.      Get a pen and paper. Don’t ask now what they will be for. You will know what they will be for in a while.
  5.      Now this is the big part. You will have to empty your closet this time. To do it in an orderly manner, you can pick them one by one and put them inside the corresponding boxes which you just put some labels on. But then again, you can accomplish this much faster if you’ve got some extra hands. Most likely, it is during this process that you will find those missing accessories such as socks, gloves, or whatever you may have been looking for, haven’t found it, and then totally forgot about it.
  6.     Now once all the stuff is already in their respective groups altogether, get your pen and paper. List down the stuff you still really need or still want to use to. These are the stuff you would want to load back into the closet. It is most likely that many of the stuff you just unloaded from the closet haven’t been worn nor touched by you for quite some time already. Ask yourself. Do I really still want this stuff? It is much easier to work with a list first. You don’t want to end up pulling your hair just because you do not find the stuff in their proper perspective once all of them are already loaded back.
  7.      Now load all the stuff back into the closet in accordance to what you have outlined in your list. Don’t forget that you have to group things in categories.
  8.     Once all the things are already in, you will find that they are in proper order already. Congratulate yourself and your aides. Job well done.
  9.

Organize With Walk In Closets

Posted in Organizing on March 3rd, 2010 by Jim – Comments Off

Why bother buying a walk in closet system? Buying a closet system will give you more room in your closet to store your clothes. Buy the system according to how many clothes or shoes, or just storage space that you need. It’s always nice to have tons of storage space in a closet. What’s even better is having a place for all of your things. The first order of business is researching walk in closets designs to see what tickles your fancy. There are so many different options to choose from that it could take you awhile trying to decipher between closet organization systems. Once you find the right one for you decide if your budget will handle a custom setup of if you need the do it yourself installation kit.

If you have an idea of what you like in a closet system, then go down to the local home improvement store. You can buy each shelf, or shoe storage individually. It helps if you have a picture of what you want as a finished closet to look at while you are purchasing the pieces. You could draw a picture of the way you would like to configure your walk in closet design. A closet designer can also help you tremendously if you feel you want to take the professional route. I recommend this option especially if you have the funds to do so.

Everyone wants to know what is the price? It varies on how extensive the system is. Buying a kit is affordable, on the other hand, purchasing a custom closet system that has to be installed, is much more expensive. It’s all about how much do you want to spend for a closet organizer. The main thing to remember is that you need to do some looking around to see what you like and educate yourself before you purchase.
