A bathroom has become a high fashion room in most homes today. No longer are they designed for function and discretely placed away from public view in a home. Today people build homes around elaborate bathrooms and they are a very popular area of a home to remodel. The attention to details is a well designed bathroom can add a lot of monetary value to a home as well as great aesthetic appeal.

As a bathroom is being planned the flooring, walls, cabinets and light fixtures are strong visual statements in the room. The bathroom lighting is especially important for function and beauty. When deciding on the type light to purchase for designing a beautiful bathroom it is important to consider several things.

The size of the room and amount of natural light in the room will determine how much lighting is needed in designing the bathroom. For example, a bathroom with a great deal of natural light or a skylight will not need as many light fixtures as one that does not have a window at all. However, even with natural light in the room it is important to consider the need for privacy and windows being covered so adequate lighting is essential to enjoying the room all throughout the day. Overhead lighting is essential and spots are also important to spread out the light in the room. Pendants lights are popular and give a nice source of light over a vanity for additional lighting as well. Personal grooming requires a great deal of light and the pendants area nice for shaving or applying make up in the morning to start the day.

Once the amount of light is determined it is important to choose a style that is compatible with the rest of the room and enables the home to flow nicely. For example, if the general theme of the home is Country French it is probably not a good idea to make the bathroom theme contemporary. Considering the other metals that are used in the room is also important. Using brass in a light fixture and nickel in the faucets will often not be pleasing.

When consideration is given to the details such as the bathroom lights the room becomes a ore pleasurable place to spend time.

Is your bathroom dark? Is your husband having a hard time seeing well enough to shave? Maybe you need better light for putting on your makeup? Or does your bathroom light seem too small for your large bathroom?

If you answered yes to any of the above questions, then it is time for you to go shopping at the lighting store. When it is completely dark outside, take a tour of each bathroom in your house. Start with your master bath. Turn on the ceiling light and give your eyes a minute to adjust. Is the room bright enough? Open your medicine cabinet. Can you read the labels and identify the items easily? Next, open the vanity drawers and cabinet doors. Can you see what is in there clearly?

If you cannot see labels and other items in your bathroom, then you need to upgrade your bathroom light. Take a look at your ceiling light. If it only has one light bulb, you are not getting enough light. If you can put two light bulbs in the fixture and there is only one bulb in there, try adding the second bulb to find out if that helps.

If you can use two 60-watt bulbs in a ceiling lighting fixture, make sure that is what you use. If you put two 150-watt bulbs where you should only use two 60-watt bulbs you are overloading that fixture and there is always the possibility of shorting it out. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions carefully.

Once you go through your master bath, move onto the other bathrooms in your home. Use the same process as above. Look in cabinets and drawers to make sure you can see the items inside. You don’t want your kids or your company getting hurt due to poor lighting. If you need to replace bulbs, or replace fixtures, now is the time to do it. Get yourself some improved bathroom lighting.
