The 18650 Lithium ion battery – Why Is It So Powerful?

You might have noticed the amazing power that those recent 18650 batteries provide to all kinds of electronic devices. You can buy the 18650 battery packs anywhere from online shops to local stores and all you need to do is buy a good 18650 battery charger to ensure that the battery works great for a long time. From cameras to laptops, lithium ion batteries are working everywhere. So what it is it about these lithium batteries that make it so much different from alkaline ones? What is it that makes them work so well?
well there are some major difference between the working of a lithium battery which makes them entirely different and unique from other batteries.

The 18650 Lithium ion battery is the lightest in weight from all other rechargeable batteries because the material used at electrodes in the making of this battery are light weight materials namely carbon (usually in the form of graphite) and lithium. The reason why lithium is such a popular choice for the battery is because lithium as a metal is very highly reactive and this is turn makes it retain more energy than any other element which can be accumulated in the atomic bonds. This also means that lithium has a very high energy density which is another feature of the lithium ion batteries which makes them popular.

Energy density is something that is required to figure out how much capacity a certain battery has to store up energy. When we talk of other batteries, then their energy densities are pretty much lower than the lithium ion batteries. Lead acid batteries can only store about 25 watt-hours/kg while the nickel metal hydride batteries can hold up to a 100 watt-hours/kg of energy. But when it comes to the high energy density lithium batteries they can store up to a total of 150 watt-hours/kg which is higher energy any other battery type. What this is turn means is that if you need one kilogram of lithium ion battery to store a certain amount of energy than it will require about six kilograms of a lead acid battery to store the same amount! Just imagine what a big difference that is when it comes to one battery storage weighing one kg and the other weighing six kg!

Another factor why lithium batteries work much better than other battery types is that Lithium ion batteries lose less charge percentage than any other battery. Compared with a nickel metal battery which has a twenty percent loss per month in charge, a lithium ion battery has only about a five percent charge loss per month which makes them much more effective and durable. Most other batteries also require complete discharging before you can charge them but when it comes to lithium ion batteries they have a no memory mechanism which you can charge at any time regardless of whether the battery has discharged completely or not. Al these reason make up for a very stable and strong battery type which fares better in performance from any other battery types available.
