Placement Of Table Lamps Can Highlight A Room’s Design

Decorating with table lamps is one of the many ways in which a dull or boring room may be given a lift. Lamps, along with small ornamental pieces such as vases, statues and various object d’art help to create substance to catch the eye and appeal to the senses of those using the room.

There are a number of placements that will best show off the features of the more decorative lamps such as crystal table and Tiffany lamps.

The living room is the most popular place in which these items are used decoratively. They may be placed at either ends of a long buffet to give the room balance. It is probably only on the rare occasion that these lamps would be used for what many would think is their primary purpose, that of providing the room with light.

In the bedroom, particularly if it’s the master bedroom, you will almost always find a couple of bedside table lamps sitting on either side of the bed. A wise home decorator will have batched the lamps with the soft furnishings in the room so that the entire area comes together as a cohesive unit. The bedside lamps may be used either as a light source for the entire room or as a reading light that is more directed to the one side of the room.

In the dining room the table lamp may play the role of adornment on the table when it is not in use, to be moved to the side as another piece to add to the side table.

Using table lamps as a chief means of decorating gives you the dual advantage of providing a decorative feature that provides interest both through the base and the lamp shade. Table lamps come in a huge variety of sizes and shapes and they can change the entire mood of a room. There should be a lamp in each room in the house that gets a lot of use to provide task lighting as well as a more general light source.
