Panasonic Lumix LX3 Digital Camera Review
Looking for a small compact digital camera aimed at the professional or advanced amateur photographer market? Want a fast lens matched with a CMOS sensor that’s built specifically to match the lens? Look no further than the Panasonic Lumix LX3.
The very fist feature to note about the new Lumix from Panasonic is the very fast f/2.0 2.5x zoom lens that’s twice as fast as f/2.8 lenses, letting in more light and offers great high ISO resolution.
The next feature is the controls: spot metering, or multi metering is fully supported as is full manual controls in addition to the standard auto exposure modes or aperture and shutter modes.
Mix these together and you have a small portable digital camera that professionals or advanced amateurs can use and appreciate. This isn’t a tiny point and shoot digital camera. The new lumix is a serious camera for serious shooters that want the fast lenses usually confined to SLR cameras.
Yes, the zoom ratio is only 2.5x, and when compared to other digital cameras with much greater zoom ratios the lumix lx3 seems lacking at first glance. This isn’t a cheap $100 point and shooter for the kids to play with or for grandma. The new lumix from panasonic offers features that only a few years ago would be limited to digital SLR cameras.
But now a fast lens, sensitive sensor with 10 megapixels and full customization of both shutter speed and aperature, this digital camera appeals to the more advanced shooter. And dont’ let the ten megapixels fool you. I would much rather have the custom sensor and fast lens that this small panasonic camera, as these two features are worth far more than another few megapixels. Poster sized prints you can be proud of can easily be produced with the Panasonic Lumix LX3.
The MSRP on the Panasonic Lumix LX3 is $499, but check your favorite online camera stores such as Amazon, B+H, Ritz and Adorama as most offer this great digital camera at a street price with a hundred dollar discount.
