Outdoor Security Cameras For The Home
Outdoor security cameras are a great way of enhancing the security of your home. But they should not be the first thing you do to protect yourself from burglars or intruders. Before we go high-tech we need to make sure we have covered the basics.
Many house break-ins are opportunistic. That is, they are not planned and the property has not been ‘cased’ in anticipation of a robbery, rather the criminal sees a chance they might not normally have and take it. Typically this chance comes because of carelessness from the owner of the house. There is a tendency for us to think that if we will not be away from our property for long that we are safe from burglars. But it doesn’t take long for a thief to get in and be off with your bag or ipod, or flip or mobile etc. Driving to the shops just around the corner to get some more sugar, visiting the neighbours for a 5 minute chat all of these are occasions when we might be tempted not to bother locking up, closing all the windows, making sure valuables are not on display etc. But these are precisely the times when we do need to make the effort. So rule number one is to always lock up and secure the house no matter how short the time you’ll be away.
Once the basics are in place we can consider the next level of home security. An alarm system is a good move. Although it is easy to ignore and alarm when we hear one going off it would have a different effect on us if we were trying to break into the house at the time! Often even the possibility of getting caught is enough to make a burglar run off and an alarm increases their chances of being seen or apprehended if someone actually does investigate the noise. The alarm box on the external wall is a deterrent in itself.
The next level of security after an alarm is outdoor security cameras. Although we are getting into some serious money to cover all the entrances of your property the mere sight of a camera is often enough to keep a thief at bay. You can even purchase an outdoor wireless security camera for monitoring the garage or shed. The main thing to remember is to get the simple stuff right first, then you can build layers of security on top of that foundation if you feel the need.
