Methods To Prevent SIDS

One of the most beautiful occurrences that can happen in any person’s life is giving birth to a child and becoming a parent. It is truly a life changing experience that can shape and mold your entire being in the blink of an eye. Parenthood is an incredibly serious thing and each and every parent should take every precaution they can to ensure that they deliver a healthy child on the day of their delivery date. Unfortunately, even when you do take the necessary steps to delivery a healthy child, sometimes an unknown factor such as SIDS can affect them, causing death.

SIDS, which actually stands for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, is every newborn parent’s nightmare, taking the young lives of over 2,500 infants per year, which is a truly horrifying statistic. What is perhaps even more horrifying is the fact that a single known, definite cause of SIDS is still yet to be considered a leading cause. Fortunately, through years of research, leaders in the field have produced many theories for prevention methods of SIDS, effectively lowering the amount of infant deaths occurring.

The most quoted and said to be the most important method is to make sure that your child does NOT fall asleep on their stomach. They must always go to sleep on their back and stay that way. This is definitely something to monitor closely, and if you have your children sleeping at a daycare, they must be alerted of this immediately.

Another important factor is how good of shape you keep your body in during your pregnancy. Young mothers should never be around others who smoke cigarettes during their pregnancy, and should obviously never smoke themselves. Cigarette smoke being around the child after he or she is born is also a definite no no for the children’s health.

In addition to these methods, using a SIDS prevention monitor is absolutely something that can aid you in preventing SIDS from striking. It allows your child to be vibrated during the middle of the night by the device if they should stop moving for a specific amount of time.
