Make Wheat Grass Juice at Home with a Hand Juicer
Wheat grass juice is one of the healthiest drinks you can integrate into your daily routine. By using a hand juicer you can make it yourself quickly and easily, and without the expense of buying the juice at a health food café, where it is often very expensive.
You could start by growing your own wheat grass for using with your hand juicer. While you can buy ready to grow wheat grass kits, it is equally easy to just DIY. You need to buy some wheat berries, preferably organic, which have not been treated by harmful chemicals. You can find organic wheat berries in health food stores, either in your home town, or from online retailers.
Grow the wheat grass in any suitable container. A plastic tray or any container will work as long as it can hold about an inch of soil. Use a 50% mixture of organic compost and good quality potting soil that is mixed well. You can also add a seed starter mix to encourage growth.
After soaking the berries overnight, you can plant them and water them well. The grass should start to grow within about a week and is ready for harvesting when it is about 8-10 inches tall. Remember to water your wheat grass every day and turn it regularly to ensure it grows straight.
A hand juicer is the best way of making juice from your harvested grass. There are electric juicers available and some even market themselves as being a wheat grass juicer but you will end up with small fibers in your juice, which can make it unpleasant to drink. A manual juicer eliminates this problem and is also less expensive than electric versions.
Take a small handful of grass and use it in your juicer as per the manufacturer’s instructions. The juicer will separate the juice from the pulp. Run the pulp back through the machine in order to make sure you have all the juice from the grass. The pulp can then be discarded. Make sure you drink your wheat grass juice within 30 minutes of making it to avoid losing vitamins.
