Believing in symbols and its meanings has been innate in us. Even before we were born there have been symbols that our elders have believe in, and throughout all the ages, these symbols and meanings have been passed through from one generation to the other. One of the famous symbols that I would like to highlight is the Japanese koi fish and its koi fish meaning.
Koi fish has been loved by many because of the natural and elegant beauty it possesses. It is commonly used as an ornament for pond owners. But aside from being an addition to enhance the beauty of their ponds, they believe that the koi fish has a deeper meaning. In Japan, koi fish represents love and friendship. This fish has been given as a gift to honor and give love to friends and families. Aside from that, it also means courage, strength, and endurance.
Japanese people consider koi to be the strongest fish because it never ceases to move. The koi has given its symbol because of a legend about the journey of a koi in the Yellow River in Japan swimming upstream. The legend says, during that time, when the koi reached the Dragon’s gate, it turned into a dragon. Because the fish has surpassed the difficult journey of the course, it showed its strength, courage, and endurance by fighting against the harsh flow of the water.
These days, many still believe what a Japanese koi represents. So people, who believe in the power and strength of koi, get tattoos. They believe that when the koi images are imprinted to their bodies, they will be empowered and given the strength and the courage that they need to overcome all the life’s trials just like of the koi’s journey in the Yellow River.
The most important thing of all, whatever the koi fish meaning is as long as you are encouraged to do better in life, you have to stand firm and fight for what you believe in.
