Kitchen Gadgets That Will Help You Cook More Often

Kitchen gadgets are a lot of fun to get and use, but if you don’t have the right ones you’ll never want to get into the kitchen and use them!  People waste a lot of money on things that appear that would save them time and make cooking easier, but in reality it would have been just as easy to do it with a knife/oven/or whatever.  Kitchen gadgets don’t come from infomercials, they come from being tested and used in kitchens and restaurants all over the world!  In this post I want to share some gadgets that are actually useful and will help you cook better and more often.

My favorite, and most dangerous, kitchen gadget is a mandolin.  A mandolin is a flat surface with a razor sharp blade that allows you to slide things across it and get paper thin results.  This works best for cutting potato chips, thin veggies for stir fry, and shredding cabbage/lettuce. You can do all of these things with a knife, but you need an extraordinarily sharp knife and precision knife skills to get the job done.  These aren’t toys!  You should get a plastic knuckle guard to keep your fingers out of the way, or you’ll lose a lot of skin!

Another great kitchen tool are cookbook holders. These are designed to hold your page in the cookbook and keep it out of harm’s way.  Before I had one of these I was notorious for melting the binding on my cookbooks from having them too close to the stove.  These are also called recipe stands in other areas, but they both do the same thing.

To create more space on the counter top, consider a magnetic knife holder.  On the surface these things look like they’d be very dangerous, but the magnet is strong enough that it will always keep your knife secure.  Restaurants use these, and if they’re safe enough for a large team to work around, they should work just fine in your kitchen.  They mount to the wall and hold your knives securely in place.

Before wasting money on the next cool kitchen gadget, be sure that it’s actually going to help.  The three that are outlined here in this post will actually make a difference!
