Kids Crafts at Easter
Easter is a great time of year, arguably better than Christmas. In this article I’ll let you know why I think that, and give you ideas for keeping the kids entertained over the Easter period.
So why is Easter so much better than Christmas? Well it has nothing to do with Chocolate! The problem I have with Christmas is it has become so commercialised, and it is driven in the main by guilt. If you don’t buy a Christmas card in response to someone who buys you one you feel bad about it. I have lost friendships through it (though you might ask the quality of the friend!). Gifts are even worse. So you end up buying and giving them first so that they end up with them feeling guilty.
Not fun.
So what happens at Easter? First there seems a lot more willingness to give. Loads in fact. And no one seems to be running around the store panicking they haven’t bought something for someone.
The other reason that I really like Easter more than Christmas is that there seems to be more time that we can spend with our kids. At Christmas we are looking to entertain the rest of the wider family, and our own kids get left out. I kind of feel sorry for them. But at Easter we seem to have more time. There aren’t as many preparations. We don’t have all the parties that we feel obliged to attend.
So we get time with the kids. Great! The only thing is that we need to do something with them. Well how about you get some of those plastic Easter eggs?
Plastic Easter eggs aren’t just good for great Easter Egg hunts, they can also be used for some rather fantastic crafts. For example you could make some little critters out of them by using craft foam. Or you could even use simple clipart to create stick on shapes.
But how do you make them stand up straight? Real easy. Get hold of some modelling clay, and some silicon glue. You need a small piece, less than a third the size of the egg. Place the egg down on a table, small point upper most, then open it and glue in the modelling clay to the base part. Put it back together again. Then whenever the egg is tapped it will right itself.
This reminds me very much of those Weebles characters. If you then go and start decorating you could have anything from the humpty dumpty character through to a dinosaur that stands itself back up!
How about creating a full game out of it? Use another egg, but this time fill it as much as you can with the clay, then put it back together. Get a load of self-righting eggs together and set them up like a bowling alley. Try and knock as many down as you can.
Have a great Easter!
