Is Hypnosis Real or a Scam?
Everyone has probably heard of hypnosis and many have formulated opinions on whether or not hypnosis is merely a scam or a real phenomenon. Many people have a hard time determining the legitimacy of hypnosis due to its vague properties having to do with the mind. You cannot do controlled studies to determine whether a subject is truly hypnotized or not, so it is often hard to fully accept.
One of the problems with the process of hypnotism today is that the number of self-proclaimed “hypnotists” and hypnosis “gurus” is abundant. The very fact that these amateurs lack the same level of training a true hypnotist possesses has resulted in many people experiencing failed hypnosis attempts. Many people still ask “is hypnosis real?”
In answering the question of whether hypnosis is real, the answer is a resounding yes. There are two different types of people and they respond differently to hypnosis. There are those who will respond easily to emotional hypnosis, while others are more likely to have a response to physical hypnotic suggestions. Very often the failure of an unskilled hypnotist is the result of this amateur using the wrong technique with a person who needs a different method of hypno mind control. To avoid encountering this type of problem, experts know they must first discover the type of suggestibility of their subject.
Another mistake that often plagues an amateur and sets them up for failure is the fact that they will often tell the subject exactly what is happening. Experts in the field of hypnosis find it much easier to successfully hypnotize someone if the person is not made aware that the process of hypnosis is happening. This is often referred to as covert mind control. Many times, even if the person knows that they will be meeting with a hypnotist with the intent of being hypnotized, the expert is still able to begin the process without the subject even realizing it. In these cases, what seems to be nothing more than a casual conversation is actually the beginning of the hypnosis procedure.
It is a well-known fact that hypnotism has been tremendously successful in many areas, especially in issues like weight loss, smoking cessation, Post Traumatic Stress as well as in many other areas. Unfortunately, it can also be used by the unscrupulous character out for his own person gain, so care must be taken when choosing a hypnotist. This is not a common occurrence because the subject needs to be in a controlled environment and feel very comfortable for the hypnotism to be effective.
