How to Choose the Right Pet Turtle Food

There are many animals that can make great pets, especially for a family.  Turtles are animals that make fantastic pets, but pet turtle care is often very bad because people do not know how to best do it.  Many mistakes are made, and this site will guide you in how to best take care of your new family pet.

Many people decide to buy a turtle because they are cute and they think that it would be a good pet to have for their children to play with.  This is the biggest misconception of tortoise ownership, and this is the biggest cause for sickness and death for these animals.  When you first bring your new pet home, it is tempting to pick him up out of his cage and try to play with him.  If you try to do this, you will probably notice that he will go into his shell and not come out while he is in your hands or on your lap.  This is because he is frightened, and this is very bad for your new friend.  It takes time for your tortoise to get used to you, and do not be worried if he doesn’t come out of his shell very often after bringing him home.  They need to adapt to their new environment, and after a while your pet will come out of shell, both literally and figuratively, and you can pick him sparingly.  It is still not a great idea to do it very often, but your turtle will start to recognize you, especially because you are the one bringing them food.

Pet turtle food is also an important piece of knowledge that you should be aware of before you purchase one.  Feeding it a mixed diet of specialized turtle food (that you get from the pet store), proteins like different kinds of worms and small fish, and different types of greens is the best thing for your pet to keep him nice and healthy and living long.
