How Laser Facial Hair Removal Works
Today I’d like to take a minute and teach you a little bit about laser facial hair removal. Using lasers for facial hair removal is not new. Lasers for hair removal have been in use since the early 1970′s but like any technology they have improved dramatically over the years. In recent years laser facial hair removal has become popular for both men and women which is a change because it traditionally was mostly used on women.
Let me explain how laser facial hair removal works. All human hair grows from tiny orifices called follicles. Hair follicles contain a substance called melanin. Melanin is a substance that gives hair and skin its color. Darker substances absorb more light than light substances and this is the main principle by which laser hair removal works.
When laser light is applied to hair follicles the darker melanin in the hair follicles absorb the heat from the laser light. This heat damages the hair follicle and inhibits future hair growth. Notice that I didn’t say permanently prevents the regrowing of hair. It is possible and likely that hair will eventually regrow from the follicle but laser hair removal will slow the process.
Laser facial hair removal works best on individuals who have light colored skin and dark colored hair. This is because the dark hair contains more melanin than the light skin. People with dark skin are not generally good candidates for laser facial hair removal because their skin absorbs the heat from the laser and is often burned. There are special lasers for people with dark skin but they’re not as effective when treating people who have light colored skin and dark colored hair.
If you choose to have laser facial hair removal, you’ll need to go in for several treatments in order to get the best results.
