Having A Successful Carport Sale

Having a successful garage sale or carport sale starts with a little organization. You only need to have a few things planned out for it to go off without a hitch. Here are a few simple things to take into consideration before implementing your sale.

Picking The Date(s)

If you have quite a lot of things to sell, then you should consider having the carport sale for 2 days. Chances are you will not sell everything on the first day and this increases your odds of getting rid of more stuff. Weekends are the most desirable day however you could have your sale on a Friday and Saturday to take advantage of those that may not work or have furlough days on Fridays. It is best to stay clear of having your sale on a holiday or holiday weekend where most people are out of town or spending their time hanging out with family. Also, make sure to check the forecast to try and get an idea of what the weather will be like. Clearly this is more of a seasonal thing to consider.

Advertising The Sale

It goes without saying that this is a very crucial part. Without advertising there will be no customers. Tell your friends, family and co-workers about your big sale and ask them to tell some of their friends as well. Print up some nice colorful fliers to hand out to them and to post on bulletin boards in your area. These don’t have to be fancy or extravagant fliers, just something that clearly states the day of your sale, the time, and the location. Put signs up around your neighborhood, ensuring that you check your local laws regarding signage. Make sure to take the signs down when you are done as you do not want random people stopping by your home thinking there is still a sale going on.

Day Of The Sale

When laying out all the items, try to group all similar items together. If you are selling clothes, if possible see if there is a nice area where you can hang them. If you have some extra poles laying around try and be creative and set up a hanging display. Put all little knick knacks on a table for ease of viewing and any furniture in the same area. Make sure that you have enough coins and small bills and that all the items are clearly labeled with a price. If you do not want to price every item, try a color coding system.

A little planning goes a long way. Being prepared will mean you have a successful carport sale.
