Finding Free Cardboard Boxes
Cardboard boxes. Is there anything more basic and boring than a cardboard box? (of course, you would probably get a very different answer if you were to ask a young child around the age of one… often times they end up having far more fun playing with the box that the expensive toy Uncle John bought them came in than the toy itself. Not that I would know anything about spending money on a toy that gets quickly discarded in favor of a simple cardboard box. But I digress…)
Yes, cardboard boxes are quite simple and boring until you need one and don’t have one. For example, if (or should I say WHEN) you need to move, whether it’s moving your office at work down the hall or moving your family across the country, you will suddenly find yourself appreciating the value and versatility of the lowly cardboard box. Another thing you may find is that what you once tossed aside with no consideration into the recycling bin is now harder to find (without paying for them) than you would have imagined. So what is someone who doesn’t want to go to U-Haul or some other such place and pay cold, hard cash for something you just KNOW is lying around waiting to be discarded somewhere?
The typical place many people go when they are looking for free cardboard boxes is the liquor store. While this has proven to be a good go-to solution for many years, it has also happened more than once that the local store (especially if you live near a college campus) is clean out of free boxes. So what then? Simple… go to any business that deals heavily in paper such as a mortgage company or real estate company. They go through so much paper that they always have extra cardboard boxes that their paper comes in. Plus, the boxes are rather small and manageable, rather than getting a box that is so big that by the time you fill it with all your stuff, it’s too heavy and awkward to move very easily!
