Facial peels – what are they?
Chemical peels use a chemical solution to improve the texture and smoothness of the facial skin. It is done by removing the damaged outer layer so that a new layer will be formed in its place. The newly formed skin will be much younger looking, have less wrinkles and with improved skin color. For people having uneven skin pigmentation, wrinkles and blemishes this is a good way to look much better.
Several types of acid solutions are used to smooth the texture and improve the facial skin. Some of the popular chemical facial peels are alpha hydroxy acids (AHA’s), trichloroacetic acids (TCA) and phenol. For people who cannot recover from a phenol or TCA peel, the AHA peel can provide brighter looking and smooth skin. For medium depth peeling the TCA peel is mostly used. Fine surface wrinkles, superficial blemishes and pigment problems are commonly treated with TCA. The peel is however not a substitute for surgery and it may not be able to stop the aging process. It is useful for removing fine wrinkles on the forehead, cheeks, around the eyes and around the mouth.

So use well moisturized products and sunscreen to protect your skin. If you use a strong chemical face peel, the ability to produce pigments will be lost and hence it is necessary to wear a sun protection always.
