Eye Pillows: Drift into a State of Pure Joy and Relaxation

If you’ve ever participated in a yoga class chances are that you’ve had the pleasure of experiencing an eye pillow.  Oftentimes yoga instructors will suggest that their students use them during periods of deep relaxation, which normally occurs at the end of a yoga workout.  These are great little aromatherapy pillows that can be picked up for under $15.

To use the pillows simply lie down on your back with your eyes closed and place the eye mask over your eyes.  The pillows can be used while drifting off to sleep or just for pure relaxation and rejuvenation.  The pillow’s fabric is usually made of a soft satin or silk so that it feels comfortable to your skin.  The pillows are quite small being no more than 4 inches wide and 8 inches long.

Most pillows are stuffed with flax seeds because the seeds are smooth, lightweight and easily lie flat on your face for optimal comfort.  The baggy pillow also conforms easily to the shape of your face with just enough pressure that is relaxing and soothing.

The pillow allows you to be in total darkness which increases melatonin production.  The melatonin hormone helps to regulate the body’s sleep cycle.  It can help you fall asleep quicker and sleep much sounder.  Even a simple night-light can create a disruption in your sleep.

If you’re into good smelling herbs you will also love this pillow because you can choose a smell that is most amenable to you.  The herbs go inside of the pillows along with the flax seeds.  A lavender scent is a great choice for pure relaxation.  If you’re trying to ward off a nagging headache opt for a medicinal scent such as eucalyptus and try a peppermint herb for an overall energy boost during the day.

Now you’re ready to lie down and relax with some nice soothing music as you drift into a state of pure bliss.
