Electric Trailer Jack – An Expensive But Handy Option
A trailer jack is used to lift up the trailer so that it can be fixed to the vehicle which will be pulling it. They are also called as hitch jacks or tongue jacks in different countries.
Trailers are attached behind a vehicle and are meant to carry objects which can sometimes be as heavy as a car or a boat. If you load a heavy vehicle on the trailer and then try to attach it to the back of your car you would not be able to do so with your hands because the trailer would be very heavy. That is why you would need a jack but you cannot use the ordinary jack which is in your car. For lifting the trailer you have to buy the trailer jack. Depending on the weight that is to be lifted there are different jacks available in the market weighing from750-lbs to 12000-lbs. Normally a jack of 3500-lbs is sufficient enough to lift most of the trailers however if you are planning to carry some real heavy objects then try the bull dog jack which will weigh around 12000-lbs.
If you look in the market there are manual as well as electric hitch jack available. In case of a manual hitch jack you have to release the pin and make the base to rest on the ground. Then use the jack to get the trailer to the level of the vehicle where you want the trailer to be attached. Get the vehicle in line with the trailer so that as soon as you release the jack the trailer fits itself on the vehicle. You can also find some good electric hitch jacks in the market which offers the convenience of lifting the jack just by the press of a button thus saving you the hard work. A manual jack will cost you around $50 in the market where as an electric jack will be priced around $200.
So if you are on a shoe string budget you can opt to buy the manual jack else you can look out for the electric jack in the market because it is worth the cost.
