Does Loceryl work for the treatment of nail fungus infections?

Nail fungus infection (or Onychomycosis) is a common disorder that results in a yellowish discoloration to the nail and changes in nail texture.  If not treated this unsightly condition can result in the loss of the entire nail and discomfort when walking.  It is rare for a nail fungus infection to disappear on its own and can easily spread to infect health nails.

The good news is that there are a range of topical treatments  (i.e. those applied externally) available for fungal nails and Loceryl is one of the most popular.  (Note that Loceryl is marketed as ‘Curanail’ in certain parts of the world.)

Loceryl is a nail lacquer that works by direct contact with the fungal organism that has taken hold in the nail.  Unlike some herbal or natural alternatives it contains a known broad spectrum anti-fungal agent called Amorolfine that has been clinically proven to treat fungus infections.  Loceryl cream is designed to be penetrative – to sink into the nail and make contact with fungus that resides deep within the nail.

The treatment requires a weekly application over several months – even for as long as a year with slow-growing toenails.  It can be hard to stick to this long treatment time without interruption.  However it is only through continual contact with the fungus in the nail that the treatment will prove effective.   Users unable to maintain a strict treatment regime may not find Loceryl nail lacquer to be a practical option.

Loceryl is more effective if applied to early stage nail fungus infections.  Specifically the treatment is suitable for infections where less than 80% of a single nail is infected.  Before undertaking any treatment for nail fungus, it makes sense to speak with a health professional.  They will be able to discuss the range of options available, consider the severity of your nail fungus infection and recommend the most suitable for your particular circumstances.
