Decorating with Purple Zebra Area Rug and Round Shag Rug Styles
Decorating ideas need not force you into painting walls and buying expensive new furniture. Do a quick makeover of any room with some modern carpets, a fun area rug, a wild colored floor covering or a toss rug that’s a unique talking piece. For under $100 or $200, your space could take on a whole new feel. Here are some unique suggestions.
Add Color To a Contemporary Room
1. Add wild life to a sleek contemporary space with purple zebra shag area rugs. If the room is decorated in glass, chrome, black and white, pull the whole theme together with a splash of color. The zebra idea brings to mind black and white, but the purple will give it twist that gives the room warmth. Add two or three other accents in purple, like a toss cushion, a glass vase or a painting with purple tones and you will have a room that is chic and yet not stark or cold. The African Safari Collection by Nejad Rugs has some excellent options that start at about $200. Choose rich Bluish-Purple or Reddish-Purple for the same price and you will have a hand tufted, naturally wool, natural dyed carpet that is a statement of personality and not just a rug.
Fix An Ugly Wall to Wall Carpet Mistake
2. If you have a hardwood floor in the living room it’s easy to add some texture and warmth with a rug. But what if you have ugly wall to wall carpet that you can’t afford to remove and you really need something to update the look and feel of the room? There are several suggestions that are easy.
One is to buy one really large cotton rug, or several cheap lightweight carpets and lay them over the ugly carpet below. Layering carpet and rugs is okay and adds texture if you do it right. By right, I mean that you select colors that will blend well, textures that will not make your flooring too thick or heavy and a layout that will not look like a patchwork quilt. Lay one or two large rugs. Try to avoid symmetry. Layered carpets are not evenly spaced make it look as if the under carpet isn’t trying to be secreted, even though it is. That is just one way to try to hide a hideous carpet covering as much as you can with other rugs.
Use A Round Rug To Create a Neutral Color Focal Point
3. There is an even easier way to change the look of your room. Even if you have an old orange or red or green 1970’s shag carpet in your living room, you can change everything with a new plush round shag rug right in the middle of the floor. If the main carpet that’s wall to wall is a solid color, get a multicolored shag rug that has a color you love mixed with something that compliments or contrasts with the old color. The texture of the new central shag rug will blend and make the old piece appear less visible. Add some accents in a blend of the two or three colors, the one you hate and the ones you love. Don’t be afraid of color and texture. If you really hate the carpet you have and want to minimize it even more, try getting a solid white round shag rug and placing it in the center of the room. But why round? Use round and not square or rectangular because round will become a focal point in the room and look less like a cover-up job. A square or rectangular piece will leave odd or uneven corners showing around furniture and simply make the room seem cluttered.
