Chocolate Recipe: Chocolate Party Cake

Everybody likes chocolate, right? This chocolate party cake is very easy to prepare. as long as you know how to melt chocolate and separate egg yolks from whites. Besides, the full chocolate cover is always sure to impress.

  1. 150g (5 oz) all purpose flour
  2. 150gr (5 oz) sugar
  3. 100g (3½ oz) caster sugar
  4. 230gr (8 oz) dark chocolate
  5. 100gr (3½ oz) butter, softened, plus extra for greasing
  6. 6 eggs, yolks and whites separated
  7. 3 tbsp apricot jam
  8. 1 tbsp apricot jelly
  • Grate 150gr (5 oz) of chocolate and melt it in a very low heat, preferably with the bain-marie technique. Add the softened butter and gently stir until it’s incorporated.
  • In a different bowl work the egg yolks with the sugar until pale and foamy. Add the flour, one tbsp at the time, plus the chocolate and butter mix.
  • Pre-heat the oven at 180ºC (356ºF).
  • Whisk the whites until snow-white and firm. Add them to the chocolate and egg mix, one tbsp at the time.
  • Pour the mix in a loose-bottomed cake tin and bake for 40 minutes. once it’s baked let it cool down to room temperature, then cut it horizontally into two discs.
  • Spread the apricot jam on the top of the bottom disc, then cover with a thin layer of jelly. Place the other disc on top.
  • Melt the rest of the chocolate (again, bain-marie technique is preferable) with two tbsp of hot water. Add the caster sugar and stir for a couple of minutes. Use this cream to cover the cake completely.
  • Let it cool down completely before serving.
