Posted in Internet Marketing on June 22nd, 2010 by Jim – Comments Off

If you have every wanted to start a business from home, then it has never been easier to do so. Before the days of the internet, you would have to be able to provide a useful service or have enough money to buy and stock a bunch of products and market them to the people in your community. Nowadays, almost anyone with as little as $50 can start and run a home based business on the internet. So let’s look at some home based internet businesses that you can start right away.

The first one is something that you probably have heard about. This type of business is where you sell stuff on Ebay. The stuff that you sell, at least for most people, are stuff that is lying around your home, specifically in your garage. As the sayings goes, “One man’s junk is another man’s treasure.” Although to you those things lying in your garage is just taking up space, you’d be surprised as to how many people are willing to pay for some of that stuff. The reason why selling items on Ebay is doable is because that site attracts millions of visitors. When you have that much of a potential customer base, it really just comes down to a numbers game. All you have to do is setup an account, take some pictures of your products, and list them on the site.

Another internet home business that you can start using the internet is freelance work. If you like to write or edit or do any other type of task that can be done at home, you will be able to find people who are willing to pay you to do it. One of the best places to look for employers for this type of work is on a site called Elance.com. Whether you’re a website designer, someone who likes to sew, or even enjoy providing technical services online, you can find work on this site.

Finally, a home based internet business that you can start right away is your own website. In order to do this, you will need to know what sort of niche is available where the competition isn’t too high. From there, you can start marketing your site and driving traffic. This last method will require some knowledge but since you have access to the internet, you have a world of information right at your finger tips.

Building Backlink – Are you a Responsible Blog Commentor?

Posted in Internet Marketing on June 17th, 2010 by Jim – Comments Off

As most internet marketers know, backlinks are the lifeblood of your business.  In fact, you cannot have a successful internet business without them.  There are many way to get backlinks to your site.  Some of them are considered good, and some bad.  In this article, I would like to discuss a method that is both good and bad.

Link building by leaving blog comments can get you a lot of links very quickly, but can also get you into trouble, or at least get you a bad reputation.  This fact, though inarguable, still manages not to deter some people from doing it.  Do you leave comments on other people’s blogs and include a link back to your site?  Of course you do, as do I.  Are you doing it correctly?  That is the important question.  Let’s look at some scenarios and see.

Do you leave comments like, “nice post I will subscribe to your feed,”  on people’s blogs?  Do you use your keyword in the “name” field on the comment form when all of the other comments on that post are actual names?  Does your comment include several URLs back to your site(s)?  Is your comment in no way related to the topic at hand?

If you can answer “yes” to anyone of those questions, you need to slap your hand, because you are guilty of “comment spam”.  Let’s take a look at the other side of the coin.

Do you actually read the post that you are commenting on?  Does your comment reflect the fact that you read the post?  Does your comment add to the conversation in some sort of semi meaningful way?  Is your name in the name field – or your site name (only if you have seen from the other comments that it is acceptable practice there)?  Are you respectful of the blog owner and the other commentors by following their lead in regards to acceptable practices on that site?

If you can answer “yes” to all of those AND “no” to all of the bad practices, you are in good shape.  Good commenting practices get you good backlinks, a good reputation, and even traffic to your sites.  Bad commenting gets you banned, your comments deleted and a bad rep.  Please comment responsibly!

Internet Marketing: Why You Should Brand Yourself

Posted in Internet Marketing, Uncategorized on June 3rd, 2010 by Jim – Comments Off

The biggest concern of people wanting to start their online business by learning how to make a website is how to eliminate the competition. I remember thinking that eliminating the competition was my primary task when starting my online business. But with experience, I realize that the legitimate concern is how to market your business with your brand.

Even when they have a good online business idea, most people hesitate in taking any action. Their fear makes them stand still. And their dreams of being an online entrepreneur are nothing more than words that once had potential for success.

“Ed, can I actually start an online business and successfully compete with other established companies without any prior experience? Will I be able to generate a substantial income online and receive targeted website traffic?”

Yes, you can. The simple answer is figuring out how to attract people like you to your online business. People are attracted to brands that they like and trust. How are you branding your online business in your marketing campaign?

As a unique individual, you bring unique elements to an online business that distinguishes your online business from your competitors. Your brand is going to establish those unique elements in the minds of your potential customers.

When you present yourself in an open and honest way, your potential customers are going to be able to relate to you. And once your potential customers are comfortable with you, they are likely to look at you favorably.

When apply to the concept of an online business, once your potential customers are comfortable with your brand and what it represents, they are more likely to look at your online business positively. This simple way of branding your online business is a more effective way to attract potential customers than a blatant sales pitch. A blatant sales pitch often makes your potential customer feels negative and slimy about your business.

If your potential customer trust your brand, they are more likely to do business with your online business. They can relate to you and your business. They have a stake in continuing a conversation with you, instead of the more established companies that they cannot relate to. By being yourself and showing the unique aspects of your online business, you are offering something that the established companies do not have — a relationship with your potential customers.

That relationship is the core of branding your online business. By establishing a relationship with your potential customers through your brand, you are ensuring that competition from more established companies is no barrier to your dream of becoming a successful online entrepreneur.

There is no competition when your potential customers like what you and your brand represents. There is no competition when your potential customers automatically think of your online business when they are looking for a solution to their problems. And your brand will keep that relationship at the forefront of their minds.
