There are many models of the metal saws which can be used for various purposes. These include metal saws with metal saw blade and metal band saw blades all of which can cut through metal depending on the job at hand. But the horizontal band saw is one of the most interesting devices and they are from the range of band saws that can be used to rip through wood, metals and ceramics. Band saw machines are a very versatile power tool and come with a cast iron head which can swing into two directions and also provides a very rigid surface. There is also a direct gear drive which is useful at making precise quick cuts and extending the life of the band saw. There can be two kinds of descent modes in the horizontal band saw: Manual and Hydraulic.

The manual descent can be enforce by pulling down the handle and then pressing the activate button while the hydraulic descent provides a feed system that can be customized by the saw operator. An important item in the entire working of the band saw is a coolant pump which not only keeps the blade cool but also provides help in extending the life of the band saw and also in cleaning up chips from the blade. This mechanism requires a proper petroleum or synthetic coolant which can be mixed with a little water in order to help the machine operate without problems. The blade is a very dangerous item indeed but the unique broken blade tension device provides the machine an immediate shut down in case the blade does break which saves the operator from any injury.

Some of the most popular and versatile models of horizontal band saws include the manual pivot type band saws, the semi automatic pivot type band saw, the semi automatic column type and the automatic pivot type band saw all of which have their own unique purpose. There are also two other distinctions for band saws which are gear driven band saw and dual cutting function band saws. The gear driven type has a nine inch capacity and can cut miter angles as well as right angles. There is a dual angle head which ensures an intricate cutting from zero degree angles to sixty degree angles. There is also a quick release system in this type of band saw which allows the operator to alter the miter angle very rapidly. But when using a good quality band saw, it is also important to make use of quality blades as well.

Using blades that are manufactured from reliable companies will ensure that they are fit for your band saw and they will enhance the life of the band saw. Buying the right blade is an integral part of the whole band saw system and it is the blades which also add to the accuracy of the cut which is important in all kinds of metal and wood work projects. There is also a blade that is ninety seven inches long meant to commercial use.

What are the uses for a cordless chainsaw?

Traditionally, chainsaws have been available in two types: electric chainsaws, and petrol powered ones. Electric chainsaws have often been used by gardeners and people to use in backyards, while petrol chainsaws are more likely to be used by people cutting firewood, and doing harder work. Both types, petrol and electric, come in fairly compact designs, but in the last couple of years a new type of chainsaw has surfaced. This is the cordless chainsaw.

A cordless chainsaw is in fact a type of electric chainsaw, but the difference is that it uses a rechargeable battery rather than mains power to run the motor. The concept is fairly well-known amongst such tools as cordless drills, and other cordless devices, and you will recognise the batteries and chargers that these saws use.

The benefits of a cordless chainsaws are many: you have total mobility because you’re not restricted by power cords, the motor is fairly quiet, there is little vibration, and the saw is lightweight and easy to use. This design makes them ideal for gardeners, and people who would be pruning trees and cutting thin timber. Although a cordless chainsaw is nowhere near as powerful as a mains powered or even petrol powered one, it is still quite sufficient to cut branches and trees up to a diameter of several inches.

It is important to be aware of the limitations of a cordless chainsaw before purchasing one. As mentioned, they simply do not have the power of a larger saw. If you are going to cut firewood, or cut large amounts of dry timber, a cordless saw is not a good choice. However, for most backyard applications, one of these rechargeable tools is an excellent investment which will make work a lot easier. Just make sure that you have some basic protective gear to wear while using one. At least you should wear sturdy leather gloves, and some form of eye protection.

How a gardener can benefit from using a chainsaw

Anybody who is a keen gardener will be familiar with tree pruning and trimming work. If you have a large garden, or even an orchard to look after, you will know that pruning a large number of trees, which often involves cutting through fairly big branches, can be hard work. Then afterwards, there is always the job of disposing of the pruned branches. This can often again involve cutting them into smaller pieces, which takes more valuable time. This is where a small chainsaw can be a huge help.

Chainsaws allow you to accomplish a lot of work in a short time. Using a spinning cutting chain, they can quickly rip through timber and branches in the blink of an eye, and with minimal effort on the part of the user. There are several different types of chainsaws which are available.

The smallest of chainsaw you can get is the cordless chainsaw, which uses a similar principle to that of cordless drills and other devices. A rechargeable battery is used to power a small motor, running a fairly small cutting bar of about 5 to 7 inches in length. Cordless chainsaws are excellent for trimming small branches up to several inches in diameter, and you can expect up to an hour’s work from one battery charge.

And a lot more powerful, but with restricted mobility, is the mains powered electric chainsaw. These can be a good option if you plan to do a lot of cutting fairly close to a power source, and they are fairly cheap to purchase. Electric chainsaws can come in larger sizes with bar lengths about 18 inches, and represent a good compromise between power output and financial outlay.

If you want to go all the way, a petrol chainsaw is the ultimate tool to buy. Although they are not suitable to some environments (they are quite noisy) a petrol chainsaw offers a lot more power and total mobility.

From these three options, cordless chainsaws are quickly gaining popularity because of their compact design, relative safety, and ease-of-use. If you do a lot of gardening work and don’t have a chainsaw, this is an investment you need to seriously consider. A cordless chainsaw also makes a great gift for any keen gardener.
