The Horizontal Band Saw Purpose

Posted in Tools and Equipment on September 9th, 2010 by Jim – Comments Off

There are many models of the metal saws which can be used for various purposes. These include metal saws with metal saw blade and metal band saw blades all of which can cut through metal depending on the job at hand. But the horizontal band saw is one of the most interesting devices and they are from the range of band saws that can be used to rip through wood, metals and ceramics. Band saw machines are a very versatile power tool and come with a cast iron head which can swing into two directions and also provides a very rigid surface. There is also a direct gear drive which is useful at making precise quick cuts and extending the life of the band saw. There can be two kinds of descent modes in the horizontal band saw: Manual and Hydraulic.

The manual descent can be enforce by pulling down the handle and then pressing the activate button while the hydraulic descent provides a feed system that can be customized by the saw operator. An important item in the entire working of the band saw is a coolant pump which not only keeps the blade cool but also provides help in extending the life of the band saw and also in cleaning up chips from the blade. This mechanism requires a proper petroleum or synthetic coolant which can be mixed with a little water in order to help the machine operate without problems. The blade is a very dangerous item indeed but the unique broken blade tension device provides the machine an immediate shut down in case the blade does break which saves the operator from any injury.

Some of the most popular and versatile models of horizontal band saws include the manual pivot type band saws, the semi automatic pivot type band saw, the semi automatic column type and the automatic pivot type band saw all of which have their own unique purpose. There are also two other distinctions for band saws which are gear driven band saw and dual cutting function band saws. The gear driven type has a nine inch capacity and can cut miter angles as well as right angles. There is a dual angle head which ensures an intricate cutting from zero degree angles to sixty degree angles. There is also a quick release system in this type of band saw which allows the operator to alter the miter angle very rapidly. But when using a good quality band saw, it is also important to make use of quality blades as well.

Using blades that are manufactured from reliable companies will ensure that they are fit for your band saw and they will enhance the life of the band saw. Buying the right blade is an integral part of the whole band saw system and it is the blades which also add to the accuracy of the cut which is important in all kinds of metal and wood work projects. There is also a blade that is ninety seven inches long meant to commercial use.

What Is Fire Resistant Roofing?

Posted in Home Improvement on September 8th, 2010 by Jim – Comments Off

During the year, particularly in summer months, wildfires are of considerable threat.  These fires not only destroy land such as fields and forests, but can destroy homes as well.  While many things can contribute to a home being destroyed by a wildfire, such as brush and debris clutter, it’s quite often that the roof is what catches fire first.  Wildfires toss hot burning cinders into the air which can travel great distances.  When these cinders land on roofs, they can easily catch fire.  A roof with proper fire resistance would not fall victim to a quick burn, and although fire resistant roofing has been around a very long time, it’s not as commonly used as it should be.

In the early years of home building, wood was a very common roofing material.  Obviously wood is highly flammable.  Tile is a very popular option for architectural roofing, but due to its heavy weight, this causes a high risk for entire roof failure.  Because of the risks posed by these roof types homeowners often pay a higher insurance rate for having them.  These roofs are incredibly susceptible to fire, from wildfires to trash and debris burnings. Salt Lake roofing experts do recommend using a fire resistance coating for these materials, but that isn’t nearly as effective as roofs made specifically for fire resistance.

Metal is the most popular material for fire resistant roofing.  Not only is it nearly completely fire resistant, but it’s lightweight which lowers the failure risk in the event of a fire.  Fire resistance is broken up into three ratings, which is given after a series of tests against fire exposure.  Class A fire rating means the roof can withstand not only but severe but prolonged fire exposure. Class B can withstand moderate fire exposure, and Class C can withstand light exposure. Class A is obviously the highest, and many metal based roofing materials carry this rating.

Fire resistant roofing is both economically and environmentally friendly. Fire resistant roofing means a lower insurance rate, and is often made of recycled materials. Salt Lake roofing contractors recommend fire resistance roofing no matter where you live, because no matter the climate it is always beneficial to have the comfort of knowing your roof will keep you safe.
