Fun with Scenario Paintball

Posted in Games on August 2nd, 2010 by Jim – Comments Off

Novice and elite paintball players alike may find a challenge in typical courses. However, with time the traditional team game of capture the flag may become redundant. For those who wish for something new, there is another option available. Scenario paintball is an exciting way to experience paintball.

In this new take on the game, different scenarios are set up between both players and team. Doing so adds a sense of exhilaration and fun. This also allows players to use their combined creativity. There are countless scenarios that can be used. For example, raiding an enemy’s building. Sometimes players use fantasy, while other times actual reenactments of past military battles are used. One well-known battle reenactment is done in Oklahoma; thousands of players gather every year to play scenario paintball. They act out several battles that took place during WWII.

Depending on the wishes of the participants, sometimes these games have specific rules and formality. This is not always the case; it is fun and enjoyable to have less formal games as well. Rules will often times be dependent on the scenario that has been agreed upon. This is also true for difficulty level. However, since the scenario is based on imagination and creativity from the players, it is possible to create a game that will include all the players regardless of experience. Different roles can be given to players based on their ability.

Many players will enjoy and appreciate a change to the traditional paintball game. It will give players a chance to be creative, as well as offering a change of pace. Both teams will be challenged by different rules, as well as by the roles they have been assigned to play. These games can be played with small teams, or they could be organized with large amounts of players. Have fun with scenario paintball! Video game addiction

Posted in Addictions, Games on July 26th, 2010 by Jim – Comments Off

Everybody seems to have at least one friend who has been lured into a video game not to be seen again for months or even years.  This is the ugly face of video game addiction.

Like all addictions, the people that are most likely to fall prey are those that have a predilection to addictive behavior in the first place.  This doesn’t mean that if John the addict is an alcoholic he’s also going to become a video game addict.  What it means is that if someone is in a bad place, they are much more likely to drop deeper into that bad place if the escape mechanism is there and readily available.

How does it start?  Take one of my favorite test cases, a close friend of mine, who we’ll name Chachi for the purpose of this example.  He found himself in a loveless marriage.  Chachi has a couple of kids out of it but wasn’t predisposed to be driven to the bottle or other drugs, so instead he escaped into one of the many online fantasy games out there.  He got into the guild thing and somehow these online avatars became more important to him than his family and his real life friends.

Chachi is one of these guys that is naturally charming in a self deprecating fashion that drives women crazy.  When he got into this awful relationship the charm wore off and instead of going out and participating in life he pushed those efforts into an online world and shut himself off from the real world.  The result was an ugly divorce.  She blamed the video game.

Blaming video games or those that develop them for the potential of addiction they might cause is ridiculous.  That’s like claiming that violent video games cause kids to go out and hurt people.  There is nothing in the many research studies done that supports this.

People need to take responsibility for themselves and for those that they care about.  If depressive behavior begins in a loved one, find the true source behind it.  Talk it out.  Nip it off at the bud.  Don’t blame outside causes that you can’t control.  Please, please avoid the impulse to contract out the litigious sleezeballs in this country to start a frivolous law suit trying to gain some lame sort of retribution from those that provide the escape.

Addiction comes in many forms.  There is no disputing that there are those that are addicted to video games but the game itself is rarely the reason.  Take the time to figure out the real one.

Good Pranks To Play On Teachers

Posted in Games on July 17th, 2010 by Jim – Comments Off

So you want some ideas for pranks to play on teachers, but you’re not sure where to start? Then keep on reading.

Good pranks are pranks that brighten people’s day a bit, especially the students. They’re probably bored out of their minds and would really love just about anything that breaks the drudgery of the day a bit. Maybe even the teachers would enjoy something like that as well. School is boring for pretty much everyone who attends, student and teacher alike, so pranks can be a good thing.

However, pranks that damage student and teachers’ belongings, or hurt their feelings are not good, because even if it hurts a teacher that students hate, it just reinforces the whole “us versus them” kind of approach, which doesn’t solve anything. School is a lot like prison, and it’s really easy to get caught up in a mindset that it’s some kind of “us versus them” thing when it really doesn’t have to be.

So if you want pranks to do at school, make sure they’re light-hearted and fun.

Like putting lots of small styrofoam bits in the ventilation system, which will make it snow in the building when it gets turned on. Also, bringing three small animals to school, labeled 1, 2, and 4 and setting them loose can be fun if the school staff spend time looking for animal #3 which isn’t there.

Anything that breaks the cycle of boredom is good, as long as nobody gets hurt or anything gets damaged.

Of course the best solution to this problem of boredom is actually quitting school entirely and unschooling yourself, but good luck convincing your parents to let you do that. While you’re stuck there you might as well have some fun, right?
