The anti cellulite industry is growing rapidly. Just last year, the industry’s revenue grew 300 percent to over $200 million per year. The growing strength of the industry demonstrates the level of concern women have with cellulite on the thighs and butt, however there are questions over many of the cellulite reduction treatments and whether they are effective enough for the money they cost.
The $2 billion cosmetic industry tends to push anti cellulite cream as an effective remedy. But you do need to be careful about some of the claims. It is impossible for a topical lotion that is applied to the external skin to reach or effect cellulite which exists at the subcutaneous layer – which is underneath the skin. Most of these creams work by moisturising the skin and helping to eliminate the appearance of the cellulite’s dimples. Research that has been sponsored by cosmetic companies indicates that over 80 per cent of females who use anti cellulite lotions are happy with their results after 8 weeks.
Day spas and beauticians offer specially made anti-cellulite machines that massage both the skin and fat to reduce the dimples and dents. The most commonly used machines are called Tri-Active, Vellasmooth and Endermologie. Some experts have questioned whether massage can reduce cellulite. But there is strong anecdotal evidence from clients that this technique does work. Sessions on the machines can be costly with a single session costing well over $100 and clients requiring two sessions per week for a number of weeks. Follow-up sessions are required to maintain the results.
A more permanent solution is liposuction. However, you do need to be careful as this cosmetic treatment can actually make the cellulite even more unsightly. You should seek out a qualified plastic surgeon to see whether liposuction can be effective on your body shape and type of cellulite.
Finally, if these treatments don’t appeal to you, there is always diet and exercise. The best exercises to get rid of cellulite on the thighs and butt are those that work the muscles in these areas. It is important that you don’t just do cardio exercises to reduce your fat levels and build lean muscle. The increase in muscle mass will help prevent the cellulite fat from coming together and becoming lumpy.
