No insulation
Without insulation in your house the cool/warm air generated by the air conditioner will escape through the ceiling and walls and exit the house. This will cause the air conditioner to work harder and it will take longer for the room or house to get to the desired temperature.
Using an Air Conditioner with a High Power Rating
Not all air conditioners are made the same; some are more powerful than others and are capable of cooling a whole house. Some are smaller and just designed for a single room like portable air conditioning units. Each air conditioner has a power or energy rating that measures the power output it will use in Kilowatts. Usually your air conditioner will have this written on a label. Leaving the Air Conditioner on all day
It is not necessary to have the air conditioner on all day. You can buy a programmable thermostat which will let you program what times of the day you have the air conditioner on. You can also program the temperature needed as you will not need the same temperature during the night when you are sleeping as when you are awake.
Leaving windows and doors open
This is a big mistake many people make but it can make a big difference in saving money on your energy bill. Close all the windows in your house and also close doors in single rooms you are trying to cool/warm. This will trap the air inside and allow the temperature to remain the same without much energy being used by the air conditioner.
