A Historic Look at The TV Cabinet

There was a time, not too long ago, where everyone had a television cabinet in their home. As television sets began to get bigger, and with the inclusion of so many different accessories to go along with the television, people invested in these cabinets in order to keep all of it organized. Soon, these cabinets became the center piece in some people’s homes. It was the ideal storage unit for your television set, VCR or DVD player, stereo system, cable box or device for picking up disk signals, video game systems for the children, some even came with an addition space to hold your VHS cassette tapes and DVDs.

But now days, while televisions have gotten much bigger in terms of screen size and abilities (high definition televisions, TV/DVD combinations), they have also gotten much smaller. Now, a thirty two inch television no longer has to be housed in something like a corner TV cabinet, taking up the bulk of your living room or bedroom. Now, a television can simply be huge on the wall using wall mounts, making the TV console almost obsolete. There are even televisions as big as fifty two inches that can be hung on the wall using the correct wall mounts. The cabinet still exist in some form or another, but are now much more compact, and are used primarily to hold extra accessories for the television, such as surround sound equipment and speakers, DVR boxes, digital video converters and various other equipment.

While there are still some people who have not made the switch to flat screen televisions, and still rely on older televisions for their entertainment, the bigger TV cabinets are still the ideal place to hold everything. However, in most places, the bigger, heavier, bulkier models once used are now a thing of the past.
